Polos are acceptable too and easier to keep neat in my opinion. I used my laptop in initial and upgrade for typing up notes, you'll def find a lot of study guides floating around too

Good question, I've never tried to do one of the CBTs on the surface. They do have some computers that you can use in the break room. There are two shuttles in the morning from the hotel, so if you take the early one then you can get some extra time to do the CBTs if you decide to leave your laptop at home.

The Surface is issued during the first couple days of training. Honestly though you may want to consider getting those CBTs done before you arrive.

My record....displaced from 27 hour 4 day. Another crewmember had a $400 incentive on a 24 hour 900 4 day in the same footprint. Got 51 hours of pay for 4 days of work. That was a good week, great when things work out. Unfortunately most times I get reassigned to some garbage local or standup outside of the 72 hours.
I had someone that was waiting on CA IOE pick up a 4 day from me. This was last summer when we were absolutely slammed and I had been awarded 96 hours. When they picked up the trip I was able to do a little getaway with the spouse and recharge. While it was financially beneficial to the future CA, it helped me out more than he would know. Again, just me personally, but if I am picking up any extra flying, it is not the dark blue or red kind. Light blue and green is all we should be picking up in any month that starts out already under minimum reserves. YMMV

Not making any assumptions but hopefully you didn't take the extra cash from the pilot trying to get the time off. If you were already getting the 27 hours and could now make it a 51 hour 4 day trip, would you really need the extra $400 from someone that obviously needed time off? If I am able to help someone out, I usually just say that I will hit them up down the road if I need help. Or I just do it and hope that I am building some good karma for later. I have never understood why people offer money on top of trips and I have never understood why someone would take money to help out.

However, under the right circumstances I can't refuse a good 150% JRM trip.

You're welcome, enjoy class.
It should be noted that there are quite a lot of CBTs for the 175 ground, at first it will seem overwhelming (theres something like 20+), some are long some are short, but you don't have to know them verbatim, have a basic understanding, they will fill in the gaps in class. The CBTs are there to prevent you feeling like you got hit with a firehose and if you have a understanding of them it will give you more time in class to practice flows/callouts. Anything you can do in class to have more time to practice for sim the better your sim sessions will go.
