Generally they seem to be able to get you into a CTP class as soon as you can make it happen. Adds a few extra days to training but you will get paid for it. I was able to start ground school the week after completing CTP sims. This was on the CRJ, I've heard rumors the ERJ is a longer wait but I don't know anything definite on that side.

They'll still put ERJ guys on the CRJ sim for CTP. Well they were last Christmas time. I don't know if that changed with the whole bigger Denver Flight Safety. I did mine 1 month prior to class. The earlier the better. Just get that awful written out of the way and enjoy your freedom before ground school.

Drop means you click "DROP" and the company takes the pairing off your schedule, because they can assign it to a reserve. To drop means the company needs to have enough reserves to cover the minimum reserve staffing, PLUS extra(s) to cover your trip. You can POST your trip so some other pilot can pick it up. Some pilots will add a cash amount in the comments section, from double to triple digits...
If those don't work, you can always call in EMER and just say you're not flying it. Crew Support does not need to know WHY you're calling in EMER. You could be sick, or you have something better going on, and you could not DROP or POST it successfully.
It's best to call in EMER before two hours to report time, so they can assign a reserve to it with a a two-hour callout.

My experience: I received a conditional job offer early June. First CTP opening was early July.

I interviewed on June 23rd. Got the offer the next Wednesday with CTP scheduled for July 23rd and CRJ ground school starting August 7th. I am still new to all this, but I am sure it will all depend on when you interview and what airframe you get.

Don't they know getting a job is supposed to be a job? The process I went through was pretty painless TBO. Overall, around 10-20 hours of study for the interview with help from various friends.
Hoping that the ATP test hasn't changed too much. Last time, I spent 5 days using Sheppard Air and passed with a reasonably decent score. From a friend I heard more than the ATP written it's the flows that are a bear...
Going to be tough if I have to sit reserve on the ERJ. As stressed as I have been with working all the time, one time the weather turned bad for three days and by the third day I was dying to get back to work. Literally felt unnatural being stuck on the ground like that. Occupational hazard?

It won't be a problem if you study for the written a bit before your CTP. I had 9 days between the start of CTP and start of Indoc and that was plenty of time. Just use Sheppard Air and follow their training tips. You'll be fine.
