Skywest v2.0

Tired. Of. The. EFB. Checklist.

I feel soo uncomfortable ducking around on my surface during #1, taxi, #2, Short final (off the approach plate), #3 shutdown checklist, #4 leaving the airplane (you really want me to go into my bag, turn the pos back on and use a checklist?), #5, safety and power up (hah! No I’m not fumbling around with my frozen tablet another damn minute while the flight attendants and pax burn up in the back just to simply establish power) Lastly, #6, Cat-II (hang on, let me FIND the checklist for that and then go back to the before landing checklist, like NAVIGATE back to the before landing checklist). Are we serious? I have to navigate my checklist? PLACARD the before landing checklist if you are going to be doing this B.S., please.

Damnit, I’m frustrated. I’ve tried (SOPM/company knows best attitude) and I just keep finding myself saying the checklist well before I even have it up.

Edit: e-mailing chief pilot now, anyone else I should include?

I'd include the special airport issues. Switching from the extraction procedure to the efb checklist was a nerve wracking nightmare. The last thing I wanted to do. I make it work but it was not fun.

Just in case anybody missed Russ's latest conference call update......

3. Day off Protections – Russ Jacobie
Recently the Company has begun forcing pilots to work into their days off. Historically this has been done very rarely, when there were literally no other options (an aircraft stranded at an outstation due to a mx issue) but more recently the company has been forcing pilots to work when it is simply convenient. Examples of reserve on days off and added roundtrips on days off are becoming commonplace.
It is SAPA's position that days off are protected, that they are inviolate and are not available for the Company to use in any situation. I think sometimes labor makes blanket statements like that and people gloss over them as typical rhetoric. That is not the case here. Policy, precedent, and common sense support our position on this.
SP3005 definitions defines a day off as:
day off a. A day or days that are free from all assignments, including travel.
I always always hesitate to recommend any behavior that risks jobs. Unfortunately sick calls, emergency calls, refusing to answer phones, not picking up open time, etc. are about the only tools at SAPA's disposal. Typically labor groups would sue, petition the NMB, or even strike, but SAPA does not have those resources. What I can do is recommend everyone fly as safe as possible until this is resolved. Today is Thursday August 24th, 2017, and as of today nobody's time off is their own.
This is the current modus operandi of the company, and the utterly impotent response from the pilot's "representatives"

To prospective new-hires: This is the kind of crap you will have to be dealing with on a regular basis. Don't like it? Too bad, pound sand. I would seriously reconsider your choices when choosing where to apply. Why would anybody still consider SkyWest to be a good option to work anymore?

Because the same crap exists everywhere. SkyWest used to be a great place to hang your hat. Now they're a stepping stone like everyone else.

Did you submit a SCR? I submitted one today. Seems that’s pretty effective for most of us with this issue.

...happened to me once recently....

Wow, while we complain about checklists and flextime they are stealing off days.

I haven't picked up open time in years, looks like that will continue.

This was one example of why Skywest was a better place. TG is going to TU this pilot group.

Just to hear clear, this checklist on the EFB problem is because it's a buggy Microsoft Surface? Would the issue be much better if it were a non buggy iPad?

elmetal 08-28-2017 04:08 PM

100% have you ever used jeppfd or anything else on an iPad? It's a dream. I had jeppfd on my 2011 iPad, and it ran faster than on the surface like... Undeniably faster

Exactly!! Stop freaking put about EFB's and checklists!!! Start talking about part time pilots stealing all the JRM and getting paid the same as full time pilots!!!
