Ford had a pretty good flight department...until they didn’t. Just keep your eyes open if job stability is a consideration. More recently, guys at GE probably were likely comfortable in their jobs until they got a new CEO who didn’t waste any time putting his stamp on things...
What business are GE and Ford in?
What business is Southwest Airlines in?

The writing was on the wall for GE.
I’m not arguing for or against either here, just gaining some perspective and interested if anyone misses their corporate career.

A few more beauts of a corporate gig:
Your fantastic CP chooses to move on or gets laid off and replaced by someone who promises to cut costs and “do it better for the owner.” Next thing you know, a job went from primo to crap...
Another example... your boss hires someone he knows and likes and the guy is an absolute tool, a know-it-all, and has zero personality. To make matters worse, the guy is constantly trying to make you look bad in front of the boss.
We elect a president who again feels that anyone flying on or owning a bizjet is an evil rich fat cat not paying enough of “his fair share” and in today’s social media blitz, the company gets tarred and feathered in public, the stock tanks and the corporate flight department gets nixed. How many here have either lost a job as a result of this under Obama or had their job offer pulled as a result?
I loved flying corporate. I enjoyed the challenges presented. I enjoyed the more hands-on approach to everything. We flew all over the planet. Layovers were at much higher caliber hotels and for much longer than airline layovers.
But when it’s all said and done... though I’m very grateful for the experience, absolutely zero regrets in any way, shape or form.

Don’t disagree at all. I was curious. Plenty of pilots at AIRLINES have also lost their jobs or been furloughed for a decade (and of course I know SWA hasn’t furloughed, huge plus). The good news on the corporate side is you can move on and make a commensurate amount at a new department, and not lose all your seniority and pay like the airlines.

Agreed. My only corporate experience was with a Fortune 500 flight department. It was a lifeboat after my 9/11 furlough and it was SO GOOD that I declined my recall to another major. Thought I would stay there forever. And then things changed.
The department laid off for the first time in its history. 20% of the pilots gone with no regard for seniority. Not eligible for recall.
Are there things that I miss? Sure. The flying was a more gentlemanly pace. FBOs were clean and less crowded than terminals. Chose my own hotels. Expense account. Crew car. A modern airplane with all of the toys.
My only regret is that I didn’t do it sooner. I wish I had either accepted recall when it was offered, or been hired by SWA right after I got furloughed in 02’. Either way I’d be way ahead.
The 9 years I spent ended up being nothing but a waste of time. The only good thing was being home more often to watch my kid grow up for the first 5 or 6 years of his life.
Now that he is older, control over my schedule is the most important thing in my life.

I left a top tier corporate job that you describe. I miss it all the time or at least I think I do. It’s easy to only remember the great...Expense account. Platinum for life at Marriott. Rental cars. Fat paychecks. Awesome layovers all over the world. Yada yada. Who knows how much longer it would have lasted. 1 year or 25?? Boss wasn’t in the airplane business and nothing is forever I’m told.
While it will take me a few years to recoup my financial losses, the writing is on the wall on how much better I am off now. As ZAP said, I wish I did this 10 years ago.
I have tons of pics from all these amazing spots...me and another dude. Now it’s all about my family and I and enjoying our time together. Productive trips. Maximize earnings and time off.
Good luck!
