mx doesnt have to be done at night but it does need to be done. Maybe other airlines are doing their mx on their red eye planes during the day.

Red eye flying from the west coast to the east coast is years away. If it happens at all. Did you miss that part of what "they said"? Did you also miss the part about how they are dealing with the fatigue issue of west coast pilots flying east coast originators? Which would only be compounded by this type of red eye flying.

Again. Don't hold your breath.

Is there anyway to check the average age of pilots in a base? Obviously that changes, but would give you a rough idea what a base will look like xx years down the road. Will ATL be trending junior as ex-AIr Tran guys come up on retirement? Will Denver captain become way senior like United was for a long time as guys sit there for 20+ years? Etc, etc. Any way to roughly predict the future look of bases - outside of PHX and MCO which would seem to be perpetually senior as the old folks prep for their life post-SWA.

I don't think it will. I would guess MCO both seats, top 30% average age 60. So do think that in 10 years, with all the geezers gone, it will become that much easier to be senior in MCO, or will a whole new flock of grey guys winterbird to MCO, and take those top spots?

You can look at retirements at each base...but this doesn't factor in pilots changing bases.

Here's my prediction.

PHX - senior because when it opened, many pilots flocked there, who are now retiring. Phoenix doesn't have the same draw it once did, so as these pilots retire, it will return to a more average seniority level.

ATL - senior because of the AirTran merger. Since all AirTran folks can hold ATL as an FO, it's no longer really senior for FOs like it was 5-6 years ago. Overtime as AirTran pilots retire, it will also return to a more average senroity level, but over a longer timeframe than Phoenix.

MCO - will always be senior. What happens at MCO it that MDW/BWI Captains get near retirement, get tired of the cold, are empty nesters, and get tired of taxes. They decide to spend their final years in Florida. There are Captains at the bottom of the MCO list that haven't moved relatively in a long time, as more senior pilots bid in above them.

DEN - Not to senior now, and due to it very likely becoming the largest domicile, will become some what more junior. Many pilots flocked to Denver when it opened, but it's not as attractive as it once was.

you can call your rep or the rep of the base you're looking at. They have the numbers. I did this when hired and was going to move to a base. Good info as they might also have the info for what will happen to the bases in near time and maybe 5 yrs out. It's a major reason why I'm in the base I am.

Default PHX for junior FO?

I'm hearing contradicting info and was hoping someone could help me with something concrete.
Is there any way to predict how long a new FO would have to wait for PHX?
Is LAX likely available in lieu of PHX out of class? LAS?
I have heard PHX is senior, but I think some of those statements are for Captains, I am trying to figure it out for a new FO.
Thanks for any help with this.

well no one knows as we havent hired in 2 yrs. I'd say %100 chance you can get lax. If we hire as much as they want everyone will get whatever base they want in a few months. I'd say phx will be 3 months at most. Pure SWAG tho
