Take the EXTO for 2 years, then call in sick for every tip for the next year. However, if you have at risk money in top hat, etc... I would think that changes the math...

I hope I’m senior enough to hold an EXTO position, it’s looking like I’m going to apply for one.

The other question is if other big 3 file for bankruptcy will SW have to as to not have a huge disadvantage and then be able to cancel all the pay for the VSP? That would hurt a lot for those who retired and were expecting 5 yrs of pay and got almost zero.
also no qualified will be gone as well so those who have a big pile in that might be worth to punch out regardless.
But I agree for those with big sick banks to take Exto and then use suck time for when they get back.

If they were willing to use it they already would have. They’re leaving 1600tfp on the table either way.

This is epic. I was hoping a lot of guys would take it to help my seniority, but I think I may now. Retiring 7 years early to catch up with my family and explore other interests.

My dad retired at 60 with enough money to live comfortably into triple digits. He bought a boat and was planning on sailing it around the world. He died before he turned 63. He told us all on the way out that you can't get time back with the ones you love.
This is an amazing opportunity. Take the money and spend time with your grand kids or just take the money and get another job doing something more interesting than listening to a flight attendant berate a hotel front desk about her lack of microwave or worry about when the last time your hotel comforter was washed.

On the upgrade issue, another point is that if the company decides to run 30% fewer aircraft let’s say, those captain seats just won’t be there until the planes come back.

That said, 2000 guys above fifth year pay going away would indeed shorten the current ten-year outlook i would think.

I will actually be depressed for anyone I fly with over 60 in the next few years. They are working their tails off for 20tfp.
There is a reason I left the Navy at 20 years and 24 days. It felt 24 days too long.

My bet is 300-400 leave for good.

Another 600 or so take leave.

Either way, I don't think think ten years is realistic anymore. The early outs stop the clock. I don't think we can even guess how long it'll be until the fleet gets back to full size again. It's going to be a while.

I'd be surprised if it's not way more on both counts. But there's no way of knowing. If I were 60 and no longer had to endure the commute many folks have, could get insurance until Medicaid availability and had a decent amount in the 401k I'd check that box and never come back to work. It's a pretty generous offer.

I'm tentatively planning on bidding on a very long paid vacation.
