Default Jumpseat weight restriction

Hi all. I recently was denied the jumpseat on a flight from LGA-ATL due to a weight restriction. The agent insisted they couldn’t take anyone and I never saw the CA. It was a -700, and I commute on this flight frequently and have never had any problems. There was zero weather in either city. I’m curious if the agent just didn’t want to deal with me or if this happens sometimes? On a flight that long with no weather, I’ve never had a problem and you guys are always great to jump on. Thanks for the help.

I’ve had a W & B Jumpseat issue on the CRJ-200 before, but not the -700.

It might have been a combination of both a weight issue and an agent that just didn’t want to deal with it. Either way, I sincerely apologize. We normally go out of our way to get all freeloaders on.

The recently increased weights are a problem at times. SWAPA is pressuring SWA to include the jumpseat in the BOW of the aircraft however I have almost zero hope that that will happen.

I’m sorry about that! Obviously, I don’t know and I’d imagine the Captain would’ve been able to make it work. Heavier passenger weights have made a difference and they may have had a bunch of freight as well. or maybe that plane was fueled for another destination and cancelled with extra gas for LGA-ATL Who knows. I’d definitely call your Jumpseat rep and let them figure it out with SWAPA. Very sorry!

The GÓM and Ops Binder say jumpseaters MUST be cleared, then if there’s a weight issue the captain and dispatcher work it out. If passenger removal is required they’re supposed to go by the removal list, of which company Jumpseaters are second from the bottom.

BUT, ground ops mgmt have told ops agents to ignore the manuals and deny Jumpseaters boarding based on ATOG(per a conversation with an ops agent).

On a flight from MKE to DAL (-700), the CA asked me if the agent mention a weight restriction possibility. They did not. Estimated ldg. wt. was 127.8, so we were close. Employees were warned that this might happen.

Americans are fat, and so am I.

Had a SWA bud give me a heads up earlier this year that this might start to become an issue. Can't speak for the others but DL JSers are part of the BOW. Cheers.

How far we've fallen. Used to be one of the most (if not the most) jumpseat-friendly airlines out there. Now between our idiotic res system (why should a jumpseater even have to make a listing....they are NOT the same as a non-rev!), and our industry-leading passenger weights, you are way better off trying your luck with Delta.
