United DEN Captain is under 6 years. You can't make this stuff up. My friend went to United 6 years ago and we talked about being based in DEN at SWA or UAL. I said "hang in there, look at the retirements coming up it will be 5 years to get DEN at UAL". Most junior United DEN pilot at that time was 10 years. He's going to upgrade soon. Wow was I wrong

Mind boggling some if the things they do, and don’t do.
Heard the airline across town is upping the coin for instructors. That should help things along.
Im sure the money they’re saving here will rocket the stock price up.
If own goals counted, we’d be winning 🤦🏽♂️

I think it is smart for anyone new here to do some research and consider leaving. Every airline is the same now, we are no longer special and it is mostly a function of retirements and movement.
Although I heard a rumor that anyone over 35 hired now at Delta won’t be able to hold WB captain because they have been hiring so many over the last 10 years. Again, I have no idea if this is correct, but if you do your research I’m sure you can find out which place works.
Anyway, I’ve just passed 11 years, still unable to upgrade and I wistfully think of what could have been if I had a crystal ball 11 years ago. Now I’m stuck with it, so lets make it the best stepping stone airline we can make it huh!!!!! Haha

90 percent of SWA pilots likely wouldn't recommend that their friends and family to fly on SWA this holiday season - the SWA "Drift" into dysfunction is real. 16B in the bank and they can't raise wages enough to get ramp workers to join the team - or stay. We are the Uncle Rico of Airlines.

As an aside, I’m plotting my escape from a large HKG-based carrier due to the ever-worsening horror show unfolding.
Odds of getting on with a major with zero TPIC or degree? I’m on about 5000 hours split between 777 and A350 FWIW.
I cut my teeth outside the US so fit a quite different profile.
I appreciate I should move this elsewhere (and I’ll ask the wider APC audience); but while you’re here…
cheers all.

The Uncle Rico reference deserves recognition; that’s excellent.

Where are you in seniority?
If you are starting year 7 at SWA like me, west coast upgrades here may happen sooner than at Delta. I’m 46 years old and feel it wouldn’t be a good deal for me to leave now, especially if there are an additional 1000 pilots under me at the end of next year. For me, I usually get within my first 10-20 bid choices, drive to work, live where I like it for now, etc.
For WN pilots at year 1 through 5 it may be a very different opinion.
In any case, a lateralish move is never to be taken lightly as things can change for the worse very quickly in this industry.
For me, I’m staying put.
