Prob one of those Midwest ones someday. Denver huge growth next year will slow that down. Pilot group will never vote in the satellite bases if it comes down to that. Helps a few commuters and decreases mega base lines. DOA

I give satellite bases a fighting chance if it comes down to a vote. Almost 50% of the pilot group commute… and almost 30% of the group never cares enough to vote. Of those that do vote, about 40% have no idea what’s going on.

That's a great point. I can see it now "WTF how did we get satellite bases??! No one held my hand and told me about the vote!"

Getting it to a vote is the problem when at least 50.1% or more don't express an interest in exploring it further.

There's a not insignificant faction among this pilot group that thinks you should just move to your domicile.

They don't understand commuting and aren't sympathetic to pilots who commute - even if they're displaced or need to do it for the spouse's job, a divorce agreement, etc.

Can't tell you how many times I heard "well you CHOOSE to commute" when I was a commuter griping about the lack of long call reserve or commutable trips. (I understand they could've also just been trying to get me to quit griping)

This and "glideslope captured zeroes set" have saved so many lives.

My response to this is "you choose to live in base", meaning anything cool that commuters get is just benefiting another significant subset of pilots. It isn't like commuters are some strange outlier group that is asking for unreasonable accommodations.

As someone making a conscious decision to live in base, my only fear with satellite bases is that they would dilute the bases here already and make schedules inflexible across the board. Other than that. I’m all for it.
