You have someone who lives in base who wants to play the sitting at home game.
He takes both the reserve block and the trip from you the day prior. You wait until the very last second to extra fly the trip and check in. He keeps the reserve block. You get paid like a lineholder. He hopefully doesn't get assigned and stays in the crib.
Requires some trust, but I have done it many times with great success. You walk off the plane at the end of the trip with zero worries about having to call someone to ask mom and dad if you can go home.
That will also count towards 2nd year pay once above the original line value. So if it was a 3-day reserve block and your friend is assigned a 22 tfp 3-day, that'll be 4 tfp in the 2nd year pay column for the win.

Actually, if your first year buddy picked up this 22 TFP 3-day in this fashion, the whole 22 TFP would be paid at second year rate. That's assuming he didn't give anything away.

Well under the original plan the 1st year guy gave away his/her rap which needs to be accounted for before 2nd year pay kicks in. But yes, a straight extra fly above and beyond the line pays 2nd year rates.

Here’s a question I can’t find. Day 1 RAP is the 1230 as it is in the awarded line. Don’t get called or assigned. For Day 2 does it become 1230 again or can they swing me to a.m. reserve the next day?

Once your reserve has started, it's dang near impossible to flip your next day from PM to AM just because the rest requirements. They can involuntarily flip an unassigned reserve for the following day, but there are caveats in the contract and it's pretty specific. The main reason they would do it is for FAR rest.

What they will do all the time is a virtual RAP flip where they deadhead you out to an outstation on day 1 and then just start your trip on day 2 from the outstation at whatever time it starts.

So for example, your PM rap starts at 11, they will call you and have you deadhead at 3pm to Midland, overnight you there, and have you report at 4:30am to start an AM pairing. It's completely legal, allowed in our contract, and completely fatiguing and idiotic.

day 2 stays 1230 unless they ask and you agree to an adjustment. What they do like to do is call you during day 1 when you’re required to answer and then assign you an early report on day 2. If it’s too early, they’ll adjust your day 1 rap to give you legal rest.

This seems to counter E6B above?

Yes and no. They can adjust the following day RAP to get you contractual crew rest. You can also call fatigued, and I honestly recommend doing so in this situation. Flipping a RAP is, by its definition, a fatiguing event unless it is done in such a way that it is discussed by both parties and agreed to in order to get someone rest who had issues the day prior.

I haven't seen them adjust the current day RAP to get you legal, and that is definitely shady if that is a common practice now. I wouldn't hesitate to call them on it every single time. Just say no and they will stop being enabled to pull shenanigans like that in the future.
