they left out that our 180 days is covered by a separate company provided short term disability program. You can buy optional increased coverage for $14 a month. Also, there is no reduction for other earned income as long as you are not working for Alaska Airlines in another capacity. Our guys that still have a pension do that. If you go work somewhere else there is none.

you just combined both of our programs into one and since you don’t have anyone on a pension there is no need for the earned income reduction.

feel free to try again.

That comparison doc has a bunch of bad info for OALs. Lazy at best, intentionally misleading at worst.

the question is why are they misleading you?

also, does this new policy help anyone who is currently on disability under the old program?

Someone on disability now will not suffer a loss of diability income under the new program...they will be ported over and will get whatever pays them more.

I don’t know what’s worse. The fact they told you that, or that you believed them. For the record we have a zero day elimination period. Shot Term Disability starts day 1. 50% of you pay and 10% extra if you pay $14 a month. use whatever sick leave you want to augment for 180 days. Then at the end of 180 days you can transition to Long Term, 50%, until 65 or mandatory retirement, no restrictions. But we have an option to not go on Long Term and continue to use sick leave until we run out. We can accumulate 1000 hours of sick leave.

I only know this because I have been dealing with thyroid cancer and have been on and off disability for 5 years.

if only your union told you that.

Not sure how this became another Alaska d!ck measuring contest. I swear to jeebus, some of the Alaska pilots that post on APC are insufferable, like worse than the kooliest SWA Koolie.

so you don’t think we have the disability coverage we have? I haven’t even told you about rapid reaccrual yet. I will correct people when they post we have a 180 elimination period and think your 60 day is better when if fact we have zero.

try just telling the truth. But that would make you d@$& seem small so you don’t.

Not at all what I am saying. There you go again...

We just don't care.

Why are you on a SWA forum trying to sell us on Alaska disability? SWAPAs contract comparison didn't get the intricacies of the minute details and optional coverages. Great. We get it. We have those too. You are all over our TA discussions posting with wild abandon. We are still hiring this year if you are that interested.
