Default 2024 Hiring

Just a thread to start any thoughts or rumors and 2024 hiring for us hopefuls. Anyone hear anything? I've heard they're done for the year. Hoping that's not the case, but congrats on the CBA to keep folks around! I've also heard the slowdown is not only due to slowing attrition, but the slowdown of incoming aircraft.

Crew Planning just put out a video Friday with updated hiring numbers, down to 734 planned for the year. Interviews have stopped for now because classes are full through April, attrition is down, and there are a bunch of outstanding CJOs and D225 flows that need seats held.

While there is definite uncertainty with the -7, we are just converting all 2024 deliveries to -8s and are still taking delivery of close to 75 i believe. Retiring around 40 of our -700s so a net gain of around 30 aircraft. The retirements can be pushed back if demand for the aircraft warrants it while Boeing gets their sh*t together.

BNA crew base was just annouced to be opening May 1, also.

Anyone remember when 734 would have been considered a HUGE HUGE year for hiring here? If we hit 734 I would think that would still be in one of the top 5, maybe top 3 years for hiring?

Aircraft devlieres were reduced by 6 I believe. Ironically, the 8MAX drives higher pilot staffing due to the turn times...as the mix of larger aircraft increases so will the pilots/aircraft ratio.

how do we really know attrition is down. It's only been 10 days since ratification?
Now with slowed growth there may be a few more jumping ship to catch that quicker upgrade. The new numbers just slowed upgrade another couple yrs. Probably going to go back to 8 yrs

It doesn't matter if we're looking at hiring or upgrades, always take the number the training center puts out before the year starts and cut it in half. They're either dreaming big or just blowing smoke up our a55es every year.

Attrition has been down for three months now. Company info, images floating around on social media, and a thread on TOF all show this.

Since attirtion was already on downward trend before the new contract, I'd expect it to reduce even more than the 20 per month used by planning now.

I think the analysts will be correct and attrition will absolutely slow down, especially since other Majors are also reducing their numbers and our new contract is right up there towards the top. Obviously those that want widebody at some point in their career or the United/Delta/American bases are better choices for them might leave, but the vast majority will likely stay.
