This is a blatant violation of FAR 61.53. If this got out and anything happened, you could potentially be liable for criminal negligence because you were specifically grounded by an AME.

Example—you have a medical procedure that’s reportable (and without special issuance wouldn’t be renewed) but your medical is still valid for two more months…not kosher in my estimation.

Why are we even having this discussion? Whatever happened to BG is between him, his AME, the Feds, and the company. If he did something shady, that's on him. Not sure why anyone who makes over 100k a month and has the ability to net even more than he does now while out on medical would push the issue, but again, it's on him.

Nobody here knows anything, so opining on it is stupid. Always seek expert advice prior to taking action. I would personally get the advice of my AME and our paid aeromedical advisors prior to leaving for the airport should I discover anything potentially disqualifying or have a medical denied. That's what we pay them for. Our sick and new disability systems are just too easy and good to screw if up.

So how do you feel about him finishing up a trip on one coast , flying all night long to start an AM trip on the other coast. I sure would not want one of my family members on a flight where the pilot did not get the legal rest required by the FAA.

Wouldn’t have been allowed if it weren’t legal. Might not be smart, or ethical but computer won’t let you pick up and work something illegal.

If those are the kind of things going on, then that's something that needs to be brought to the attention of professional standards followed by a chief pilot if there is no resolution. Otherwise, it sounds like rumor or conjecture.

I am not here to defend anyone running afoul of regulations or sound decision making, but from what I have seen of him, BG did it all above board and let everyone see what he is up to. Granted, picking up open time during pickets and lobbing hand grenades in the forum don't really endear me to him, but I had no issue with his flying and revenue generating game. I admire anyone using this job to print money, and he was a champion at it. Not really my thing, but it was good to be able to pull up his board and see how someone with a little seniority and a lot of determination could make a killing here.

His board wasnt blocked. He was doing that stuff for years. You would look at what he was doing and wonder how is was even alive still.

I wonder what his main motivation was? I wonder if he just loved playing the game and making money…I can see how it’s addicting for sure! Or I wonder if there’s a more dark side to his story and if he had to fly so much because of his lifestyle choices…or if it’s something completely different…either way he will be a Southwest legend for sure

I flew with him several times. He always said it was just about making as much money as possible.
