southwest files to fly more international

126.Passengers Daily Each Way (PDEW): Number of daily passengers each way between the origin and the destination. This is calculated from an average between Sabre Global Demand and PaxIS. If one (1) or both are unavailable, the Company and the Association will mutually agree on alternate vendor(s) to calculate the average on a per day of offered service basis in the market research phase. Once service begins, the Company agrees to share all ticket data with the Association on these routes.

If you are looking for a roadmap for SWA doing long International as far as an airline to emulate, it’s not JBLU. SWA carried 175 million passengers last year vs 29 million for JBLU. Very broad network vs a highly concentrated network.

My comment was more of a....our planes can do what other airlines planes do without us requiring a new type to do it. Not necessarily that we should....just that we can.

When looking at near international, it’s the total, since we can easily serve those markets. The PDEW limit is also much more restrictive for near international.
Certainly a very complex part of our contract.

Depends on how you are using it. In the context of the pacific region in our contract and the 875 limit, it’s the amount of passengers that touch that region and Southwest aircraft

Perhaps it’s time for SWA to jump on the “bat wing” before the queue grows even more (UAL just ordered up to 200 of these things):

Since Boeing and Airbus have hundreds and hundreds of widebody orders (including recently from the ME and India), SWA may have missed the boat in terms of timing for new orders if the hedge fund board members are thinking about international expansion beyond the 737s.
