From what the hiring folks told me, the pilot hiring manager asks HR to pull applications that meet certain criteria. HR pulls them and we interview them. If it is too many, the criteria are tightened. Too few and the criteria are loosened. If there are disqualifiers somewhere in the body of the application, that person is not selected for an interview. The "personal" side of it is completely removed prior to interview day. This is for liability reasons and to prevent the "good old boy" system which I am sure still exists somewhat behind closed doors. I haven't heard anything about a point system. We do not accept internal or external recommendations until after selected for an interview.

I do know that they have hired people without 737 types the last round. So this could be an example of one they loosened. Also I know two guys that did not have 4 year degree that got hired, now both were Check Airman and had the types. Its a crap shoot actually because I know guys will Types, 4 year degree and around 8000PIC turbine that have not got called. Got to love how computers pick sometimes.

Southwest to Operate More Daily Flights Than Any Other Airline! « Nuts About Southwest
Don't know how exactly this relates to our current level of staffing, but it is the first time the company is publicly acknowledged that
1. We are going to have more aircraft on the line
2. We are going to operate those aircraft longer hours
I am not getting too excited, but I would expect that this corroborates the hiring that is expected to get bodies on the line for the summer.

Thanks e6. I have a follow up to your last statement- should I bother uploading LORs to my airline apps profile if I have not been selected for an interview? I don't want to hassle my internal buds for a LOR to upload if it's not factored into getting selected for an interview.
Thanks in advance.
