There's been plenty of informational picketing in SWA's past. Not much to see here...

These folks deserve our support. They are fighting outsourcing and demanding that their jobs remain in house rather than outsourced to the lowest bidder. This is such a slippery slope that many have gone down before and we all know where the path leads. They are much higher paid than most of their peers for a reason, they do a great job. In general, we have the most conscientious ground staff that I have ever worked with. I have seen what farming out these jobs to the lowest bidder does to the final product, and it is not pretty. I hope they hold strong and win this fight.

Good luck, but when the choice becomes a quality product or doing it cheaper, who do ya think will win? This is a canary in the coal mine for you folks and you need to back them up. Doesn't Southwest outsource their heavy maintenance already, I mean like off shore????

They do outsource heavy checks and unfortunately they were early on that bandwagon. They have yet to do much outsourcing on the customer service side of the equation. This is not the first time this battle has been fought at SWA, but in the past it seems that SWA was so protective of the product that they backed down fairly easily. It seems that they are less willing to give in this time. Only time will tell how it turns out, but 555 has not given an inch so far and hopefully they can win the battle.

Tough nut to crack because the company has scaled back flights in many of the smaller markets to the point where you've got a bunch of people drawing full-time pay to support a schedule that could be manned with part-time or contract employees. When the Wright Amendment goes away in 18 months the situation will only get worse when flights from Dallas will not longer have to stop in ELP, MAF, AMA, LBB, OKC, TUL, etc to get to bigger and better places on the route map..
