Bingo. Especially in MDW and BWI as well as MCO and a few other nuisance markets. Added bonuses were a nominal amount of automatic LGA/DCA slots and a skeleton "international" infrastructure, and potentially a better reservations system although that was probably a minor consideration. ATL presence was a nice tertiary add on, but to SWA it was always just a dot on the route map and never a nexus of space time like it was for AT. Oh and also 737's and 737 slots.

Jesus, where do I even start? How about this.......if your union (with the strong-armed help of your CEO) hadn't insisted on taking all of our 737 cptn seats and now essentially most of our 717 cptn seats (due to their early departure), then perhaps the downgrading AirTran cptns wouldn't be bumping down your F/Os after they transition over.

They're getting what they deserve. This whole thing about "whaaa, I'm getting bumped out of my base because AirTran pilots senior to me are coming in above me" is SO comical. You guys wanted your downgrades, now deal with the consequences. This one in particular I'm sure most of your seat-hungry F/Os never even thought about, but it's music to our ears when we hear a SWA.......er.........excuse me, RSW F/O *****ing about sliding back in their seat and base because of AirTran pilots transitioning over. Hell, it's not nearly enough to consider karma to have played its full part, but it's a start.

Wow, haven't seen WHACKMASTER in a while. I hate to admit it but I think that Whackmaster is spot on. SWAPA and SWA management worked hard to screw the AirTran guys as much as they could; unfortunately they were successful.....with all of the LUV to go with it. Now SWA guys/gals are "somewhat" paying for it by getting displaced from their bases.......boo hoo. That doesn't even begin to describe the pain that the AirTran guys/gals felt and/or still feel. Remember this SWA guys/gals, getting kicked out of your base to a senior AirTran FO (who was a captain) is NOTHING compared to getting every one of your captain seats stolen (whether by blatant lies or not) and taking an underserved paycut. Another outsider who sees that the LUV is crap

That is the problem, because you are an outsider that has no access to the the documents pertaining to the deal, you are forced to come to an internet web board and make assumptions based on the BS that is spewed here regularly. You can't make informed decisions without all the info. So forgive me if I disregard your opinion. I will happily listen when someone actually involved loves or hates the deal. The decisions that were made actually effect them and they have access to the information that allows them to make truly informed assessments, the rest is just internet noise.

I was reading the Southwest 2012 Annual Report to Shareholders (which just came out) and on page 7 it says in 2013 SWA will, "complete the transfer of all remaining departments, with the exception of Flight Crews, whose transition is aligned with aircraft conversion."

That means for over a year (until 1 Jan 2015), the ONLY people left on the substandard AirTran payroll will be pilots and flight attendants. Everyone else will be feeling the LUV and the pay that goes with it (well at least getting the pay). The flight crews will be the only ones left at the Tranny so SWA can continue to milk the cash cow that is AirTran (the International Division of Southwest Airlines)...think bag fees, lower crew costs, etc. Every other facet of AirTran will be run by SWA employees making SWA wages. So the next time a junior RSW whines about being displaced, think about the 1000 or so pilots (+ whatever the number of FA's) that are the only ones still stuck on this side of the partition. Remember it has now been over 2 years since Date of Corporate Closing and there is no LUV in sight for the majority of AT pilots.

And when the AT pilot finally does get to cross, they get to commute to whatever base they can hold at SWA. If you are an AT FO, you will be lucky to get a line if you are assigned east of the Rockies. In the meantime, we will see SWA open an ATL base and fill it with RSW. An AT FO won't be able to hold ATL as a SWA pilot until sometime in the next decade. Therefore, he'd probably choose to move to a SWA domicile, except for the fact that his house is most likely under water and he can't sell it. So he will be stuck commuting (with the other unwashed masses) to some distant SWA domicile in an attempt to hold a junior line.

The flight attendants have a new bag tag which sums it up: One LUV, 2 pay scales

Herk beat me to it.

Also Sherpa, I think your predictions re: domiciles are a little off. It will all depend on where you fall on the MSL. Some of your senior peeps have come over and are clearing their boards, sucking up all the premium time at their domicile, and holding all the best trips. It ain't all gnashing of teeth (though there is plenty of that among the junior east-coasters on this side of the partition, too)
