For the record I was offered an interview at the beginning of the hiring without any internal references. After my interview a chief pilot called me because he was having trouble getting in touch with two of my external references that I had listed, but that I had a great package and interview and he wanted to wrap my package up and get it to the next decision board.
He then said the only thing my package was missing was an internal reference from a pilot. I had a flight attendant, a provisioning supervisor, and plenty of externals, but I explained to him that I got out of the Air Force early via a VSP and the vast majority of my buddies that I had flown with were still in. However, I told him I had a Southwest Captain friend that I had known for awhile, but had never flown with and I was under the impression that we had to have flown with that person. He said that was not the case and pilot credentials is wrong about that and to have that Captain submit a recommendation for me so he did and two weeks later I was offered a job.

As far as the internal recommendation comment it sounded as if he was saying my package was awesome, sts, and the only thing missing to really make it shine was an internal from a pilot.
I was surprised he was so forthcoming with information, but apparently when he spoke to my current company at the time the director of training told him that they were about to send me to Captain upgrade training soon and to let them know ASAP if I was leaving so they didn't spend money upgrading me. So the southwest chief pilot I spoke to said he wanted to rush my package to the next board out of respect for my current company and I so that if for some reason I didn't get hired I could still attend my Captain upgrade class which I thought was really cool of him and also really cool of the director of training at my previous company.

Sorry. Two separate things. The chief pilot still needed to get in touch with my references who were actually out of the country at the time so he gave me his cell phone number for them to skype call him directly.

Ok, app has been reviewed by my prep guy. I did not have the Comm/Instrument box checked because I checked the ATP box- didn't think it would matter. Maybe that's what kicked it out so quickly?
I also contacted my FO friend at SWA and they said they'd be happy to have me list them, so I will put them down as an Employee Referral on the Southwest Careers app.
I still have my resume/CV/LORs on PCreds.
Anything else I'm missing before I re-submit?
Thanks!

Question for those that have recently gone through training:
How anal are they about the responses/verbiage for the flows? Do they want exact responses, or just to make sure you know what to do for each item on the flow?
The reason I ask is that the responses are different depending on where you look (the FO+Flow+Charts (with the panel and flow diagrams) vs the CAPT+FO+FLOWS*(text) vs the QUICK+CHECK+1-6 (condensed text) pdfs that are all part of the training materials we have access to)... Anyone know which is the best one to use for studying? I like the one with the diagrams, but it seems to be the most out of date (it doesn't have efb preflight items on it, for example, whereas the other two do).
Also, do they give you a panels diagram when you get there to practice from? I know the hotels and training center have them, but it's nice to have one in the room to practice with. I've found downloadable pics online I could take to Kinkos to print out I guess (not sure how much that would cost), or the cheapest online poster I've found was $55... Worth it, or just wait for the paper tiger and procedures trainers in the training center?
Thanks...

1. Don't worry about it.
2. Be sure to show up the night before to attend your newhire class party.
3. They will give you all the information you need, including videos, flow guides, posters, etc. You will also have access to procedures trainers, and will find that class is about three weeks longer than it needs to be.
4. Go back to number 1.

Perfect, that's what I like to hear!
Already planning on #2, and will now do more of #1 and #4!
Cheers!

This is really good advice. I would add to study the FRM's(you will get access to these when you get to training) for systems knowledge and supplement with the lights and switches guide. Most importantly have fun!!! I'm fairly certain you're an XJT'er so you will do fine. It's like an ExpressJet reunion over here when you walk in the crew lounge, lol!
