Talking to a guy that just wrapped up the interview in Dallas, he quoted Rocky as saying 750 is the goal for 2017. I would imagine the increased number is to make for 2016 attrition. In his video address to my recurrent training class, Alan Kasher stated that 2016 was the worst year in the company's history for attrition. If my new hire class is any indication, 20% of the people hired last year have left for other carriers.

Wow. What did AK say about the attrition? Just that they're going to hire more to account for it?

AK didn't give exact numbers on how many folks left SWA for other companies, just that 2016 was a bad year. He did say they were looking into improvements and changes to keep SWA at the top of folks list of places to work. What those changes would be, is anybodies guess.

For those of you reading this thread and have upcoming interviews or just got the CJO, welcome aboard! This really is a good place to work.

Default 2017 Invite to Interview?

It is a good place to work, but never allow yourself to be blinded to the compensation, benefits, and quality of life enjoyed by our competitors. Talk to your friends and former colleagues at Delta, AA, UA, B6, etc about how they bid, where they stay, what their rigs are, how their companies deal with nutritional needs on long legs, dropping trips, what ancillary fees are paid for.

It's important to compare so that when contract time comes around we know where we lead and where we fall behind. We can't be a drag on the profession.

The number I heard from an Asst Chief Pilot was something around 95 new hires left in 2016.

Were those guys that were hired in 2016 and left in 2016?

Not sure I'd put B6 in the same category as us. I recently flew with a check airman who did IOE for a newhire who was a B6 captain prior to coming here. Not sure B6 compares compensation-wise...

Maybe not yet, but they have some QOL provisions that blow us out of the water. Full uniforms (including leather jacket) paid for by the company. Parking at your domicile, your commute city, or a city wide rail pass in your domicile paid for. The ability to drop trips. Commutable pairings (including reserve). Pre-release days. Short and long call reserve...

We have a lot to learn from our colleagues at other airlines. It doesn't pay to look down our nose at someone who may just have some cool things that we lack.
