A strike vote and a billboard is a good idea. It's not illegal and it can't be used against us as long as it's not out of hand. Trashing their FAA approved training program might not be a good idea. A sign saying we voted to strike can get attention. I would probably put it right next to MCO. Our biggest focus city and Bob's back yard.

I'm not sure public outcry would result from a billboard or two. Most travelers see all air transport as equal from a safety standpoint, which is a credit to our industry.
Public shaming of standing available chokers is not appropriate either, as annoying and counterproductive as they might be. They and we know who they are.
I think the disconnect in compensation knowledge among many of our ranks from whats our peers are making is a huge problem. I've a had a few conversations with jumpseaters etc that were quite eye-opening as far as this goes.
Maybe some comparative education is in order. This is not all on the union, they can provide information (which may or may not be currently adequate) but its up to us, as line pilots to discuss, resolve and move forward with a unified agenda as much as is possible- there are always going to be disagreements.
Complacency leads to a generally slippery slope, especially in this industry where things can change in an instant. Now is the time and until we can self police, don't go looking to the NMB for a savior.

1. Yes, the public does care about the plane they fly on and how it's maintained regardless of price. The company needs to be held accountable to the public on they business practices and the public and BOD are the only ones that matter to them. Not us. CALL THEM OUT!!!
2. The standing available list to me is no different the crossing the picket line. The guys doing it are prolonging the income that we deserve and directly effects the ability to take care of my family. CALL THEM OUT!!! At least wear the green lanyard!! Geez...
3. Education on pay rates?! What!? The guys that don't know what's going on must live under a rock and truly are low tier!! I would say the are in the minority.
4. Complacency? Yep, that's what your promoting if you are not emailing your reps, not getting fired up and realizing that the company will not give us a fair contract until their arms are twisted. Progress sometimes is painful!!!

Ok. How about this, Unity should not be a gray area. It is black or white. Either your in or your out. Either your in it for yourself or the group. Will I publicly publish a standing available list for all to shame? No.. but I will offer a up the question, why are you not wearing the green lanyard?? I will also to note of guys I see on the line that are on the list. Will I be happy to hang out with them?? Hell no. I don't want to hear all about the deals they are getting while I fly my line and put pressure on the company so they can get the same contract I get.

Seriously, if anyone can indicate what I'm doing wrong here, I'm all ears. On par with a "scab".......give me a break!

Maybe helping them when they are desperate enough to be drafting? Taking MUP when a senior guy that rarely/never gets called might actually want to get a JRM once?

Exactly! I've chimed in on this topic before and I will again. I rarely say much on this board yet it bothers me how some will associate people on the standing available list as all "chokers". It is not always the case. I strive as much as possible to at least maintain line value while working as little as possible (major quality of lifer). I typically drop all undesirable flying during IOT (while its green) and re-fortify later if possible. Yet the trips left in open usually suck, so many times I never end up picking things up and end up with a 50-60 hour month. Meanwhile there are many times a last minute trip will pop into open that maybe super "juicy" (DH's maybe...lot of soft time) that I wont have access to unless on the SA list. Yes......not all trips are "juicy" so I refuse 95% of them (making scheduling work harder).

Ok. Here it is. You are not the exception. My line sucks to. I do what I can to fix it during iot or dot. That's it. I get what I get and fly my line. It does suck right now but it's when the phone rings from scheduling it's not a call to help you out! You may justify it like that to make yourself feel better but it's a call to help them. I was one of the guys before contract talks started that also worked the deals and that's just how it was then. It's different now, if you fly for them for premium pay, it's only cause they have no choice. You take the trip it helps them. You take a plane out with an issue, it helps them. You fly sick, it helps them and hurts the group and your crew. If everyone would stop being so short sighted, just for a little while, we could get this done!!
