No one else wants our business for what Spirit is willing to pay to satisfy our contract requirements. Also, other airlines stay there so they satisfy past arbitration. I hate the drive to Long Beach more than anyone but I do like the Westin.
I think we’ve seen a steady decline in hotels since this contract was signed. I don’t mind being near the airport and am a fan of the new hour requirements for long vs short. The problem is that there are loopholes such as Boston where the long is just as close as the short and the short is garbage.
Our language is far too weak for what’s satisfactory and when we had more “long” layovers the hotels available usually exceeded the requirements. Now that we have a lot more “short” layovers it brings in a lot more crummy hotels that meet our contract and since spirit bids as low as it can we end up at these. Hotel quality should be a priority in the next round or mid cycle if we can. To me long or short shouldn’t matter and we should be at a four or five star hotel in either situation. That’s not happening today.
Keep bringing shortcomings of hotels to the appropriate people. We can’t get a change if folks just accept the garbage they give us.

No doubt NK tries to pay pennies on the dollar for everything... but it’s all negotiated by hotel connections and LGB is a bad example... United, BA, numerous middle eastern carriers all stay there... from LAX....? Disregard... after a quick edit and reading further in depth that’s pretty much exactly what you said!!

Long Beach is the best overnight in the system. Easy access to beach, waterfront, good food (and so much variety of it,) bars, bike rental, and a clean, safe area.
Don't F this up, nothing else will be this good.

Have send screenshots of the BOS “long” drive being shorter than the BOS “short” drive to the hotel committee every short BOS layover, no response....
also, sorry, but love LGB, just need to adjust pickups for early show, was at the gate 40 minutes before show last few times, emailed ALPA, nothing.

There are no reasonable hotels in those areas that don't involve a mile walk to the water. And the drive down Hwy 1 takes just as long as the drive to Long Beach.

Agreed, wish we could have kept the old rules but I had no say since I was a probie back then. From what I remember the company was fine with leaving the hotel language unchanged but ALPA stepped in because pilots were b*tching about the van ride to some of the long stays hotels and now we have sacrificed overnight QOL to stay at Hampton Inn/Comfort Inn/Holiday Inn Express by the airport. And to top that off we get to share the hotel shuttle with pax who don't know where the hell they supposed to be going.
