This troll got a free seat and was given an exit row. I’m sorry but when I commute, I am grateful for any free seat and would never go and bash that airline to the pilots of that airline, after getting a free seat, a free exit row seat.

Me on the last flight of the day, load factors higher than the temps this summer: “I’ll take a seat in the lav if it’ll get me home”. Most crews laugh at the joke, but I’m not really kidding.

I’ll hang on the gear 3rd world style if it’ll get me home.

I always offer to sit on a deck chair on the wing, if need be. Provided they give me old time aviator goggles and a scarf. Usually get a laugh from the gate agents and the FAs.

He’s probably the type of guy that doesn’t stop by to ask permission to ride the jump seat because he “received” a seat in back from the gate agent!

Not to thread-drift.... but is it just me? This seems to be a VERY common issue lately....

After 2 regional guys in one week- then a United guy: “Hey man, thanks for the ride- they already gave me a seat, but I figured I’d go ahead and ‘do the right thing’ and bring this form to ya....”

Long pause- then I said, “well, as long as we’re ‘DOING THE RIGHT THING....’ Ya got an ID???

What’s going on??

Oh yeah, quite common and I see it much more often with regional jumpseaters.

And I do the same, it’s a “get all the docs out” if you want to play the “hey I got a seat from the agent” game.

Ahhh, what happened to the old days of...

“Hello (addresses both pilots, FOs are often ignored) I’m Jim with ABC airlines, here is my docs, the agent has a seat for me but I wanted to see if it was ok with you both if I got a ride? It’s ok? Thanks. I’ll grab my bag from the jetway. Appreciate it.”

Now it’s “hey, I got a seat in the back, just wanted to check in”

Not defending the guys that do it but I wonder if the young guys are used to not doing it since at least for the regional WO’s it’s not required to check in with the crew when given a seat in the back on American. Not sure if it’s the same for the other legacy’s on their regional carriers.
