I don't have an apple product, iPhone or ipad. Is this something we can download on the company ipad when it is issued, or will it be to late by then to have much use? I have been doing it the old fashioned way, paper tiger, and printed out flows. Like others have said this has been rather arduous.

If you can bounce a tennis ball on the wall and recite the flows without hesitation then you’ll be way ahead of the curve.
KNOW THE FLOWS Know the limitations. Know memory items. IMO opinion in that order of importance. I can’t say that enough. When you have an instructor and three other people watching you, and that shiny new touchscreen all staring at you, you’ll wish you knew them without hesitation and complete confidence. The oral questions are asked as you work your way through the flows with some examiners. |
I’ll be that guy... I didn’t know anything showing up 4 years ago. I made it through fine but it added a bunch of unnecessary stress. The more you know showing up the more you can study other stuff and not feel like you’re getting behind the curve. If you’re new to 121 even more reason to study up before getting there.
People need to stop making it seem like it’s impossible and that they expect you to know everything on the first day of Indoc. All it does is add stress to an already stressful situation because no one is going to be 100% prepared the day you walk in. Just try and study as much as you can before showing up (start with the memorization of flows), have a good attitude, study what they tell you when you get there and you’ll do fine. So here is my thing. I am studying bold faced items from the COM for limitations but for ex. 502 - 698NK it has the min oil temp bolded but for other types/ tail numbers it doesnt have the min oil temp bolded. I mean why does that not matter and moreover I am just reading the idea of what is bolded as to what you need to study wrong? Every limitation has a bold header for example but im just writing down the ones where the actual value line etc is also bold. Is this correct?
confusing / frustrating to say the least. Yes would like be prepared but dont want to study things that I dont need too right now to leave some extra space in the ole noggin thanks. ps. there must be a study sheet somewhere that someone would like to share on these. |
I'm going to be that guy. I showed up knowing what Spirit told me to know on day 1. Limitations. Memory items. And familiar with the flows. Spirit gives every pilot ample time to learn and practice flows during the ground portion of training in front of a paper tiger, FMS, and touch screen trainers. Also, spirit will give you all the source material (and there is a lot of it) that instructors and check airman draw from. There is no need to go outside to find materials to study from. Now, if one desires to go above and beyond and purchase apps, videos, on line tutorials, and more, then have at it. But, everything you need to know to be successful in Spirits training program is provided to you by Spirit. Disclosure: I am a former Part 61 instructor, Part 135 and Part 125 pilot with no previous Part 121 experience. The training at Spirit was easier and less stressful than the training I did in Part 135. The only people in my initial class at Spirit that were stressed were those that brought it on themselves.

When did you go through training? When I went through they said if you know the flows you’ll be ahead of the game... All they sent me was a flow guide, a cockpit mockup, some HR documents, and slip for a LabCorp drug test. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I was still at my other job up to the Friday before I started at Spirit so I just didn’t have time to study. By the end of my first week, I knew all the flows. By the end of my second week, I was good on all the limitations and memory items. I had to study a lot, but I did it. I did it using the A320 app because I forgot my paper tiger at home. So I went all the way through training without it. Also, my sim partner and I never met outside of training and we both passed with no problems. |
