Training pay is that low because “the union” (pilots already here over a year) will not use up any negotiating capital to improve that and the company is still getting plenty to come aboard with the current year one/training pay.

We don’t need to make any other excuses.

Totally accurate. When we took a bunch of surveys of what we wanted in this contract, I don’t remember hearing much about training pay.

The ugly truth is for the last 10+ years the MEC(s) we have had, none have felt negotiating money should be used on pilots not on property. This is why the last contract had first year pay at $38.50 for the entire length of the contract, no date of signing increases.

Fair enough. I’m sure once the pilots are on line, after one year, they will not change a thing.

Nothing, the attitude is that “it was harder for me than it is them because my rate was at $30 an hour, 45% raise, and when the company has trouble hiring, they’ll fix pay themselves.”
I’m fairly certain we’ve beaten this topic to death on previous thread(s).

Homewood Suites is the hotel you want. Dinner 4 nights a week, breakfast every morning, full size fridge and cooking equipment in the room and walking distance to the training centre.

You are absolutely right. We in aviation have a horrible habit of eating our young.

The only way this will ever change is if the company decides that they want to do it because they aren’t getting enough good applicants, or too many are leaving, or whatever other reason they might have... And even then, I am sure that the rest of us will insist on getting more before the “newhires” get any.
