I agree with what you say, but why the disconnect of that fact and future stated hiring trends (cough) United (cough)

In my opinion, Delta Air Lines hires based on a few measurable criteria subsequent to the Pilot Selection Committee's requirement to look good in their uniforms. This is in keeping with their vision of being the 6th (or 7th) Armed Forces of the USA SLASH the second branch of the U.S. Naval Air Forces. I mean, instead of Departments on their website, they're called Divisions. With that being opined, I also opine that a company can hire whomever they want. Merica baby.

Well if you and Judge read what started this, a guy comes in here comparing our training to Value jet just because his airline does things differently. My comment was clearly sarcastic, although his wasnt. Of course every airbus operator has alpha floor events. If anyone was throwing stones in glass houses it was him.

Our training program has made great strides in a relatively short period. The glitchy touch screen trainers used to be used as the FTDs. We didn’t actually have a real FTD. Then there were only four sims. Things are so much better today.
When someone makes one of the many ULCC jabs you have to let them roll off of you. Especially in an anonymous forum. When you jab back it comes off as a Napoleon complex. The other thing is depending on their personal or anecdotal experience with Spirit there may actually be some truth to what someone says depending on the time frame of their experience. Better to not get butt hurt over it. 5 years at an airline growing this fast is ancient history, never mind ten or more.

A little humility goes a long way in this case. None of us are immune from making mistakes in this mine field of gotchas we call a career.

The LCC/ULCCs have - in recent years - been gobbling up domestic market share and now SWA is aggressively going after the Hawaii trade, JB looking at the London Market, and NK going after the Carib and Central America. Meanwhile, the pandemic has helped jumpstart Breeze and Avelo while IATA says it may be 2023 before international fully rebounds and Forbes is predicting that a third of the business flying is NEVER coming back. In the meantime, NK is talking in their earnings call about 30% growth in one year before settling back to their more leisurely 15-17% YOY growth.
If you are a junior pilot at legacy and paying attention at all, that’s got to make you a little nervous, and unfortunately some people react to nervousness by demeaning the people they are nervous about. Best to ignore it.

What does any of this matter? We are all pilots. Why does anyone care what airline is doing better and get joy out of one doing better than another. We are all pilots and how we ended up at one airline or another is largely timing or luck. And we had better hope the legacies do well because we don’t want them dropping 777 capacity all over the country even if they do it in the red. And if we plan on making nice gains in the next cycle they need to be making gains as well.
