They are looking towards the future when we all know pilots will be at a premium at any airline, legacy carriers as well. There isn’t a single 1500 CFI being hired right now. They are simply acknowledging they will need to be more flexible in the future, which doesn’t mean now.

The lowering of the mins is like saying UAL and DAL are hiring 1500 TT CFIs because that’s their mins as well.

Lots of applications on file before we start going the 1500 CFI route, but we will most likely see it at one point.

I know it will vary based on the individual…but what chance would a 1500 CFI have of getting through new hire training over there? I’m sure if it comes to that spirit will make adjustments.

I say a very good chance.

Is there really a difference in a 1500TT getting hired to fly a E175 vs an A320?

Southwest completely stopped growing at 300 airplanes didn’t they? Oh wait. There’s also word we’re now looking to triple in size not double. We’re actively looking for more used planes.

No there’s not. Europe has shown 250 hour pilots are capable of flying an A320. My post was aimed more specifically at spirits training alone. It’s sort of known to be super tough and with no jet experience you are considered behind the curve.
Correct me if I’m wrong.

Yeah spirits airbus program is much different than a foreign airline. Also much different than any regional airline program. Adjustments would have to be made

Spirit training isnt tough. They added an additional sim a few years back and they will add another in a second if needed to fill seats. They didn't "need" to add more sims years back, if they "need" to, they will and not blink

As far as the lack of jet training putting people behind the curve. That I disagree with. Our prop to jet pilots are, in my opinion, some of the best pilots we have. The nice thing about not having jet time when starting here, no habits to break from prior jets.

And the BEST part is as a CA, I dont have to listen to "Well on the RJ we used to......" Ugh...Nobody cares about the CRJ.

In the end, we have pilots who have tons of RJ time here and they are weak, and we have guys with no RJ time when hired and they are fantastic; and we have everything in between.

If you’re talking about the ground instructors those guys are a rare breed. Super smart. Not your average 1500hr pilot. They also get the program twice

They also like guys they know are unable to leave (no degree) and are just happy to be here. Less likely to ask for more and more likely to settle for substandard contract (we aren’t United attitude)
