Yeah, I’d be at $164/hr if I upgrade to CA. That’s 10 year FO pay at Spirit.

I’m not dogging Spirit, but the reality is that some regionals are paying more money through training, and the first year. And if you upgrade to CA in a couple years at these regionals, it’s more than most FO pay at Spirit.

Is your management even aware of this? This could severely dry up your regional FO new hire pipeline that you’ve depended on for years. Pretty soon you’ll be competing with the regionals for 1500 hour CFI’s.

Yes

Unless you're leaving a situation where you're currently commuting and you could live in a Spirit base I would recommend staying put and upgrading. If you're just coming to get the type and bail then go to Frontier. At least you'll have insurance and good pay while you're there.

Spirit should be the last resort to use as a stepping stone now. EVERY other bus operator pays more.

I’m mostly interested in Spirit because of the reported Houston base and the great QOL at Spirit. I commute from Louisiana.

If I liked it that much I could see myself staying until retirement in a decade.

I can't peak for NK but I'm over at F9 and im paying over $100 more per month for my health insurance at F9 than I did at PSA.

It wasn’t a cheap-shot, it’s just facts and kind of a warning of what’s going on the regional world. Crazy times.

I know Spirit has much better QOL than any regional, but money for retirement is really important for me now.
You should be beating down the doors of every legacy at your age, with UA and AA being the top choices due to seniority movement. You don't have much time left, and while the regionals are making nice gains, it's likely just one big bait and switch for if/when the economy dips hard later this year or next. They will be the first ones filing chapter 11.

NK really isn't a good option for you given your age, but if you really want to be here then see what happens with the interview. The problem with waiting to see how things play out is that HR will have stacks upon stacks of applicants if we somehow get some crazy gains in the form of an LOA/TA. I personally wouldn't bet the farm on that, but then again crazier things have happened (e.g. Mesa getting industry leading pay rates...wow).

But we are all happy you love it where you are now - i would assume a ca, which is something new hires here won’t see in five years with the current rate of attrition. But you got yours, so what the h€||, right?
