Says the junior pilot who can’t bid off them. Red eyes are a killer long term. Enjoy them until you can “avoid” them

It was my experience in the military that some people didn’t tolerate night ops well, and others were largely unbothered by them. I’m not sure if it was genetic or learned. I am fortunately in the latter group. That was the case in my later 135 flying as well.

I really struggle with them. What's strange is I have no problem getting up at 2-3am and flying a 5am departure, but landing at those times I am nearly a zombie. Thankfully I have been able to bid away from all of that crap for the most part.

Most likely learned. I fly medevac, and with being a night owl, going to bed at midnight then getting called at 0100 for a 0200 flight… you body learns to adapt to the lifestyle. Wouldn’t say I enjoy this flying but it’s doable in the short term.

Interesting how different we all are with physiological rest. For me, i prefer evenings but would rather report at 2130 for a transcon redeye than wake up at 3am for a 0445. Those early birds mess with me more than anything. Not sure if they still exist but i used to hate the super early bos-myr.

So word is out that Sept. 6th all Spirit pilots are getting a pay override of $25/hour untill a new CBA/ JCBA or 2 years passed.

this is straight from a guy in new hire class and management gave a presentation too.

Also ONLY first year new hires. Once 1 year is complete you get a “signing bonus” of $45,000. And health insurance immediately!!!
