Year 2 at Spirit I'd make more. I just upgraded so probably would make around 80k this year if I stayed. I'm just a bit uncomfortable right now with all that's changing at Spirit. Seems like to the company is changing some large parts of the operation and I'm not on board with any of them.
Having said that, I would absolutely not stay at a Regional if you have the opportunity to leave. Even in this economy, I'd still much rather be stuck at NK. There is much more to a job than your hourly pay rate. There is 0 reason to stay at a Regional, and that even excludes how much more valuable you would be with an A320 type.

I’m a rookie in the RT seat. Getting the opportunity with Spirit seems too good to be true. The thought of commuting just took some wind out of my sails…

Probably showing my age here, but the expression you are looking for is: “first world problem”, or maybe: “difficult decision”. “Tough spot” is those regional guys I am flying with, who after a decade+ at the regionals (“just get those pic hours!”) finally gave up on the legacies and started over at NK in the last 5 years.

I say take the class and update your apps the day you start with spirit as your new employer and update again as soon as you take the type ride and then update after every trip. You’ll be here anywhere from a couple weeks to maybe as long as a year. Stay at your regional and who knows what happens.

TPIC doesn’t mean jack squat anymore. Come to spirit and you will be much more likely to get hired at United or AA. Why would they pull from their own regional feed when they can pull from the competition instead. Never ever stay at a regional longer than you have to. I say living in base is number one when you pick an airline unless it’s a regional. I also think you could get into ORD in not a long period of time because even those that will hold it if it shrinks will be headed for the exits at UAL or AA. Getting stuck here will be much better if the music stops.

I'm all for sky-is-falling gossip, but that's like half the Chicago pilots. Plus, the most recent vacancy bid added pilots to ORD.

I hope you’re all right about updating the apps. I’ve been here a year updating the whole time and still nothing. I paid for the professional app review and at the end they said you need 3 or more LORs per airline and need to be 6 mos recent so they also need updating.. I like it here but I was not wanting to join F9 and now the displacements plus the forever upgrade. I fly with captains who go in and out of reserve and they’ve been here 7 years..
