there is an incentive for the pilot to want to make his commute to get to work…If you can’t make it to work with those two commutes you don’t get paid.

The commuter policy is completely separate. If you have the required 1 online or 2 offline flights and don’t make it, there are no repercussions. It doesn’t count toward the dependability policy. You just don’t get paid.
I’m certainly not defending the B6 way. Just making sure we’re comparing accurate info.

So, what happens at Spirit if you call out sick for a 4-day trip every month? No repercussions? The B6 dependability policy basically says if you call out 5 times in a year (simplified version), you get a call from the CP to see why.

Since your dependability policy is outside your CBA, it probably is just rubber stamped US law which states an employer has a reasonable expectation of dependability for its employees. JBLU clearly wants to remind pilots of that, NK does not.

just to be clear, you don’t call out sick because you missed your commute at Spirit.
commuter and sick calls are separate.

How are those treated differently in this nonsensical attendance policy?
My license requires I call in sick if they have a broken leg, a sniffle, a burst ear drum, a headache, or if I’m overly stressed bc my wife is banging the pool boy. Seems like a lot more opportunity to legitimately call in sick than some idiot that spends their days writing an attendance policy. It takes a month for a burst eardrum to heal yet you can go about your normal life as if nothing is wrong besides swimming and FLYING. If you want it to actually heal that is.
BTW I have over four months pay in my sick bank but it can be quite easy in this profession to have to call in sick a lot for a lot of different reasons.
I have also been happy to donate some of my sick time to those that end up in a bad spot bc of an illness.
The ones with 10hrs in their bank that have been taking lots of sickcations are often asking for donations and go fund me when they have an actual health issue that requires a lot of time off. I’ll never know for sure if they burned all their own taking days off for no good reason so I still donate. Karma will get them I’m sure.

I get it that in the regionals there were guys that had time consuming sidelines, but that is clearly much less of a problem with n the majors. If you want more money the easiest way (by far) is just to load up your schedule - especially with premium stuff, which you can’t do by calling in sick.
since lineholders can drop to zero anyway, why would you abuse calling in sick?

I certainly would not defend a dependability policy but, it’s a policy established because employees can’t be depended on to show up to work. If one were to say show up to work on time most of the year, as written the dependability policy wouldn’t apply. Next argument please. FFS
I think we need a bit more on this before we can proceed to the next argument. In 10 years at NK I have had to CP out twice, first time company elected to release because plenty reserve, and the second time was for a 50 hour credit trip, and I spend 7 hours in an airplane stuck on the deice pad (hint: I really would have rather flown that trip). If your employees need a dependability policy, it is either; a)you are hiring the wrong people, or, b) you are treating the people wrong. The fact that JB has a DP for pilots is definitely something that worries me. Pilots defending said policy... I have no words. FFS
