United is not really upgrading that quickly anymore. Since I don't not have access to to the current Spirit CBA....what as a percentage is 12 yr UAL 320 CAPT greater than Spirit 320 CA......again all other things being equal just hourly rate.

Latest rumours of 270 furloughs/140 downgrades and 3 base closures seem to be close to the mark
then? Looks like a ton of displacements if that’s the case…
So the rumor mill had ORD and DFW as closing or being reduced. What’s the 3rd base closure rumor?

Not correct. The vacancy that closed in December had over 100 Airbus Captain awards in ORD and SFO going mostly from 12,000 to 14,500 seniority which are early 2022 and 2023 hires. Its just on pause now because we are still training all the New Hire Captains from last year that have their 1 year on property and once that pipeline is clear the NB CA bids will start again in November per Crew Resources. With 200 hires a month starting in November the vacancy bids will be fast and furious, especially since the 787s are coming a 2 a month starting in January instead of the 2 planes every 3 months we have now.

Damn. Downgrades/more furloughs? So much for the rumors about hiring in the fall...

Prayers are with y'all. Hope you all find some tailwinds somewhere.

I had a guy in my new hire class (2023) at SWA get hired with a prior DWI. It happened roughly 10 years before he got hired. You can overcome it but you definitely have to articulate that in your interview. I highly recommend some interview prep service. I hear United is hiring like 2000 next year, we are hiring 300-600 not sure about the others. If the MAX 7 gets certified and we start taking deliveries AND the economy is strong and people are flying that number could go up for us. Time will tell. Hang in there. Update your apps and prep for that interview. Good luck!

Yes, however I think to Turbosinas wider point and certainly something I was trying to get across to LNVVNAV is that the one year upgrade ship has already sailed. That is not to say I wouldn’t encourage him/her to still apply and I hope they are successful. I just think it should be a consideration when doing one’s “worth it” calculations.

Not likely. There are still 500+ NB deliveries by 2032 plus 143 more 787s coming and that will drive a lot of upgrading over the next 5 years, not to mention retirements ramping up. I bet within the next 12 months we have 1 and 2 year pilots getting NB Captain again.

For those bottom Captains about to get displaced, what’s yall plans, commute, or downgrade to avoid commuting?
ALPA literally said two days ago that they have no news of furloughs or downgrades

Well considering you said you haven’t had an offer from a legacy, downgrade or go to a legacy doesn’t really seem like an option. IMO if you can’t afford to downgrade that leaves you with no options. Either take the easiest base you can commute to as a CA or deal with the pay cut. Many of us junior people are feeling the squeeze right now but we have no choice. Get busy leaving, or get busy dealing. I hate it for you the same reason I hate it for me. never thought I’d be chilling on reserve 6 years after upgrade…
