Spirit of NKS
This is a rumor I hear often regarding the single jumpseat on the 320 that really needs to be put to bed!
At the end of the day, we work for Spirit, the single jumpseat is a cost savings measure, nothing more.
Btw, I did hear of a flight where a captain called dispatch to reroute them inland to accomodate a second jumpseater on a full 321 flight from LGA to FLL. Not sure if it's true, but if so, great thinking on the captain's part to help a guy get where he needed to go. That's truly a "no pilot left behind" mentality we should all hope to offer!

Excellent explanation and heart warming story.

And you guys were in contract negotiations as well. Coincidence? Are the new airplanes delivered with two jumpseats and the second is ripped out during the conformity check stateside?

I'm pretty sure they come with one JS. I flew 632 when it was still on its very first logbook (the one that records the original AC being issued), and there was no mention in there of a second JS being removed.

Speaking of industry standard, since you are a member of management, let me ask. I believe I have been through two recurrents now in which it has been claimed that our fueling procedures are standard with the industry, yet I have multiple friends at other airlines (all of them) yet no one is required to sit on the airplane and wait for a thumbs up from the fueler to begin fueling. Can you guys finally admit that this is just a Spirit issue? I think the FAA was just trying to show you guys who is in charge.

On a more serious note your question should probably be directed to the FAA, and more precisely the certificate overseeing FSDO or Ops group. I have no idea as this is completely out of my knowledge expertise (even though I am aware that it was an issue, especially in the past) and something I never deal with but if I was to place bets the previous statement would be a good place to point the finger (gubmint) considering I have seen other "special" ways of doing things even at different carriers that are somewhat related in nature, such as specific MX procedures/checks which aren't replicated at most if any OAs on the same equipment...they were all born out of more less the same source.
In any case I'm not familiar with the details other than it exists so I'm not going to comment any further on it.
American also does this if you use a D3/buddy pass to get some friends places. They consider it imputed income and so you are taxed on it in addition to also being responsible for the nonrev charges.

Man some of the grey planes are looking pretty bad w speed tape and mismatched ray domes, nacelles, winglets etc. anyone know when they are supposed to go get yellow?
I doubt those planes will ever see a paint shop as long as Spirit has them. Most are supposed to go back to the lessor in the next couple of years anyway.

Probably the 319s that are due to be returned starting next year. I would love to see all the 19s painted and stay on property but that doesnt sound like its going to happen. Listening to the conference call it sounds like our strategy is to lower CASM with larger airframes, which is interesting because our load factors continue to fall. Hopefully thats just because we have new routes that havent matured yet.

How many and which ones? Was starting to wonder if the yellow was just a gimmick since we only have 3 of them
