We will see soon enough.
I hope they don't close DTW; for some reason its senior and I can't possibly imagine why anyone would want to live there. But as long as its still a senior base, let em have it!

Closing Dtw was a Carlson thing. I believe that's over with. I think the new growth there is evidence of that. Don't fret to much.

Hey hey hey- I resemble that remark!
This company was started as a casino charter out of Detroit to Atlantic City. The top 100 or so guys are from Detroit and Jersey. That is why those bases are senior. That being said, ACY is also the junior base, because there are more spots than people wanting to be there. Soon, DTW may go junior as well, if we keep expanding, but my money is on LAS for expansion.

I am planning a long distance move. Looking at various options and Spirit is one them. For the guys living in FLL, is the salary sufficient for an older new hire to ensure a reasonable QOL? Cost of living in FLL area?
Any advice/comments would be most welcome..

Florida has some cheap real estate, unfortunatly Ft. Lauderdale and surrandings isnt one of them unless you want to live in the gehtto (lots of them).

I would took to rent for a while untill you make up your mind on what you want.

Basic numbers: (i usually take 18%-20% out total from gross)

6 mo based on 72 hr resv line after taxes and deductions $2,100
6 mo based on 78 hr hard line after taxes and deductions $2,400

Any new hire fell free to jump in.

These are conservative numbers to say the least. But better plan for the worst case. Some guys say that they can hold lines quick. The benefit is more hrs/mo swaps, drops and pick ups.

Any first year, as you know, if rough anywhere, but it gets better.

Im not from SE florida, but I was told to look in Weston, Plantation, Parkland, Coral Springs, Deerfield beach, Delray Beach.
Some places in the Ft. Laudardale area arent bad, but you have to fork some money.

Good luck if you are going to join us, Welcome if you are already here.

I've seen two bdrm condo's a half hour north going for less than $50K. Beware! The association/maintenance fees are equal to the mortgage and
the assessments could triple the total package.

Thanks for the prompt reply Sailor.
I know this is a leading question, but what is Spirit like to work for?
Living in Florida can be a challenge I suppose as any State in the US is.
I am moving(have lisenses and US residency etc) from another continent and was wandering what the dollar would buy there. I am bringing a substantial pension, so would probably buy in the longer term.
Tried to read through all 318 pages, but it is rather time consuming. So any other advice as far as the interview and what is expected of one at the interview would be most welcome.
I have not applied yet(as you no doubt have gathered by now). Spirit is top of the list...

Thanks again..

Thanks Skybolt.
That is exactly what I am afraid of. Stumbling blindly into something and paying the price for it...
