I was told AE is pulling out from the gates on the other side. We are trying to get some of those gates. If we do expect a base.

Interesting. Where is this at?
Just to bring up to speed, and to test my own knowledge:

Spirit bases
ACY
FLL
DTW
LAS
DFW

Correct?

^^^^ Correct

ORD: Chicago

AE.. American Eagle

Yes we could use, at least, one more gate at ORD

Cheese Heads & Gophers would be happy with a base there, you betcha... BTW: Go Bears!

Hooray! Much easier than for the 737 type rating.

Just a quick, cursory glance at ORD, there seems to be quite a few flights in and out of ORD, would this cannabilze a DTW base, or would it be in addition to the DTW base?

I'd think ORD would become quite popular as a base.

Beyond my pay grade to make a decision about DTW as a base. Detroit and Michigan have seen better days. It would make sense, from a business stand-point, to move your assets to an area that is growing rather than shrinking. If I'm not mistaken, there are "other" factors involved with DTW remaining a base.... thankfully.

That's exactly what I gather from Mr. Baldanza's philosophy and strategy, not all about market share, it's more about profitability.
If Detroit has outlived its usefulness (ie. profitability) as a base, move on, don't worry about sentimentality. 'Course, it is a hassle for those that live in Detroit, I feel for those if they move out of DTW as a base.

Bases open and close. It's just a fact within airline operations. Contractual obligations can make it easier or more difficult depending on which side of the fence your on. I would hate to see one open at the expense of another. But again, no one is ever immune especially with B3's philosophy of entering and exiting markets.
