I hope we don't see this at Spirit. A small stopgap to attract and retain pilots would hurt the entire group by pushing a contract further off. I hope the MEC fights any notion of a signing bonus for newhires.
The sucking sound at the regional level is why they have to offer these signing and retention bonuses.

Can they give these bonuses without union sign off?

At Republic they tried to fight it after they had already paid new hire bonuses once. Because they had done it once without union intervention it was considered past precedence. So if the union blocks it at intial offering, then it should be something the union could fight.
Granted im assuming, but I would expect a fight from the MEC if the company wanted to hand out bonuses.

It would be a violation of the status quo. We could go on strike for that alone.
Btw Allegiant is not paying bonuses for Airbus types anymore. My understanding is that it's against their CBA. It's not against ours but since we are in negotiations and they haven't ever paid bonuses under this contract it would be a status quo violation.

It would be an interesting fight. I see it could be argued that any compensation for a collectively bargained group needs to be done within the confines of Section 6 negotiations or in the form of an LOA.

I heard last night it was another wasted session at the table. amazing - now we will have to wait until 2017 to make any progress thanks to Bendo and his crew being "too busy" in December to try and close BS sections.
Why oh why would anyone try to get a job here right now?

The next action we need to take is vote for a strike. Enough is enough!
