Trans States

You're in the wrong business my friend. And on the bottom of a seniority list, you will be the first to go if things get tough. But, things 'round this joint are either feast or famine. Right now it's famine with no contract and no expected growth (that I've heard of) but that can change rapidly.

To everyone that is seriously considering on sending in their resume to Transstates, I wish you the best of luck.
Cargo isn't a bad gig either. I've been at my current employer for only 1.5 years and I already have more then 70 pilots junior to me, and I'm going left seat into the 1900.
I took the route of graduating from school and going straight into the regionals. I totally forgot how to fly instruments with the automation and glass after only a year in the ERJ. It wasn't until flying the Chieftain, single pilot, over the Cascades at night until I realized that all the old dog captains that I spoke to were right. It's better to build a solid foundation of strong instrument skills, decision making and experience before you go into the shinny jet. If I was able to make one change, it would have been going to 135 cargo before 121 passenger.

I just don't understand why anyone would want to go to TSA when Eagle, Expressjet, and Skywest are all hiring. I guess if you got turned down at all three or if you have like 15 busted checkrides, then there wouldn't be a whole lot of options. If you live in the STL area, then I would also understand... but those are the only exceptions I can come up with for coming to this place. I guess there are worse places you could be... but there are much better places hiring right now! Currently there is no end in sight for getting a new contract. No contract means no job security, no growth... not much of a future. BTW, if you fall into the 15-failed checkrides category chances are you probably won't make it through initial training (notorious for high washout rates) and you'll wind up with more stains on your record. Back in 2007, the carrot at the end of the stick was the quick upgrades... now there's no carrot, just a stick to beat you with.
If you're set on going to Trans States... then good luck, but make sure you understand that there are other more attractive options. Having said that, I don't think you'll find a finer group of pilots if you do come over to this side of the tracks.

None, especially at TSA. Unlike the rest of the regionals that have seperate certificates, we have nothing agreed on job security not even something as simple as pref hiring between the certificates. Company would rather whipsaw the pilots rather than doing the right thing.

This has cost me more money since being back than anything else...
To those of you thinking about coming here....whatever you do....if you're based in IAD stay away from Chipotle.
It's an addiction that I need serious help with.
...and on that note....it's lunch time.

If you had flown where you are now first, you wouldn't have been in that situation.
