United Airlines September Job Fair

Also attended. Just as everyone else had mentioned, I was thoroughly impressed with how welcoming everyone was. From the time you step onto the facility, everyone down to the security staff makes you feel like you are already a part of the team. The one on one is just reinforcing that you can deliver their guiding principles, in your own words. Yes, you have to be genuine but we’re all pilots and we know how important it is to utilize our resources. AKA a consulting company is mandatory if you want to know how to present yourself in the best light. Take the effort to engage yourself in the process (learn about the company) and be a prepared individual.

I was near the end of the one on ones in my session so I think I got at very most 10 minutes (it seemed like 5). I got “tell me about yourself” and “why United”. Don’t hold back and put your heart into it, that’s all I can say. Be you, and if it doesn’t work out, than keep trying and building your resume. They want to see constant progression which is what my guy told me (he highlighted on that with my resume) and obviously for you to be team, company, and most importantly customer oriented.

Takeaway: Be prepared to tell them about YOU and “why should United hire YOU and not that guy sitting at over at that table” and be AUTHENTIC.

Good luck everyone.

Glad I am not the only one who felt like it was only 5 minutes, I was at the end as well. Felt very rushed but the interviewer was very friendly and the overall event was amazing. I was surprised how little I was asked about my resume, actually not one question off of it. I was asked what got me interested in flying, tell me about yourself, what do I like about being captain and why United with very little interjection. I felt like I was talking a million miles per hours bc I wanted to be able to fit in most of my progressions and why I truly wanted to be part of the United family.

Good luck to all

Here’s a good read about United for anyone attending today, it tells a lot of recent news about the company. I’ll be there this afternoon. Good luck everyone!

^^^^THIS^^^^^

I had a great experience and am surprised that I had no TMAAT questions etc. Just an absolutely great conversation about myself that I filled with pieces about myself as we strolled thru the resume, shared some laughs, and I asked some questions. I can say they TRULY want to hear your reasoning for why you want to be at United outside of the cookie cutter fleet, upgrade, I got a friend that works here answers.

Overall I was very impressed and walked away very excited and hopeful for a future with United. Hope to see some faces in a future interview session and better yet the first day of class!!!!

This sounds like it was a great event. Was anything new (public) presented about 2019/2020 hiring plan - I know that there has been a slight pause in interviews, but did the presentation discuss when they will resume?

Job Fair

Man, I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt a little intimidated.. The presentation and people were absolutely outstanding. The information was pertinent and pretty exciting for anyone like us that WANT to work at United. The one on one did indeed feel very rushed, and the room was SO loud. I felt like I was screaming at my interviewer. No questions from my resume either; "What makes you better than anyone here" "Why United" "Tell me how you got to this place (in flying) right now". In the end, I'm hoping I didn't sound like a goof.

Attended the Expo this morning. It was a very well organized event. Everybody was super friendly and went out of their way to make everyone comfortable.

The one on one was trickier than I expected. I didn't do a lot of prep because I wanted my answers to be natural as opposed to canned or overly rehearsed and not genuine.

However, I was asked to relate what my most memorable flight was... And I froze! I have been flying a long, long time and I've had some very routine flights (most of them) and a few memorable ones. But I had to really work to recall one of them when put on the spot.

I hope I didn't look too stupid! I just wanted to pass along that experience so you can be ready.

Just to correct a misconception. The better prep organizations don’t want you to give “canned” answers. It’s more of a chance to give you an opportunity to think about and practice possible answers to questions that fit you and to get unbiased feedback on the presentation of those answers. As an example, if your answer to the question “Tell me about yourself” lasts 10 minutes you probably lost the other person after 2-3 minutes.

NewType 09-11-2019 09:39 AM

Good luck to those folks going today. Be yourself and enjoy the experience.

blizzue 09-11-2019 03:02 PM

The best money I ever spent was on interview prep.

Hank Burley 09-11-2019 05:05 PM

My one on one today was awesome, went over the allotted 15. Very conversational, no curve balls. Others didn’t seem to think the same. They would not commit to how many new hires there would be next year.

stoki 09-12-2019 03:56 AM

Agree with the previous posts.

As far as the one on one it was 10-15 minutes, had a TMAAT you helped a customer question as well as why I think I would be a good fit for United.

Seems everybody was being asked something different. Either way I left with a good feeling at the end of the day. Hopeful something materializes from it further, as its the place I would like to be.

Good luck to everybody.

Wingnut64 09-13-2019 09:41 AM

Any Hogan emails yet?

stoki 09-13-2019 11:51 AM

IIRC according to the presentation the first ones should start going out until October.

jackcarls0n 09-14-2019 05:51 AM

Just the email thanking for attending the career expo. The Hogan should be in the next week or two.

Thanks for sharing this. I was under the impression we would hear in a week or two.

Appreciate it.

2018 attendee. They will trickle out invites for the next several months based on strength of resume & job fair performance.

Fitzhume 09-23-2019 01:26 PM

I was a 2019 job fair attendee, first day, group 1 candidate. Just got the invite for the Hogan and “Becoming United” on Saturday morning. Took the assessments last night and got the congrats email today to schedule a face-to-face. I’m positive those who went will be getting some good news soon. Met a lot of awesome and highly qualified candidates. Keep the faith and hope to see you in the promise land!

Fitzhume 09-23-2019 05:57 PM

Invites will go out until January based off last year’s numbers.

I was in the first group on day 2. We'll see when/if the process continues :-)

penaltybox 09-27-2019 05:16 PM

Do the group numbers mean anything?

Don't believe so, based on letter of last name from what we gathered.

Just took the Hogan. What's people's timeline been from completing the assessment to when you hear back?

So... what’s the first letter of your last name?

Interesting, I was wondering the same. Guess it will take a while to get to people whose last name starts with Z. Who knew last names could play such a role ;)

Good luck on the f2f.

Any information or update?

dang 10-09-2019 08:14 PM

I attended and have yet to hear anything.

Didn’t they say interviews will likely take place 1st quarter? If so then then invites won’t go out for a few more weeks.
