I’m going to the Expo as well. I was surprised and excited to get the invite.

6700 TT
1000 TPIC
5700 121
Masters

Spoilers 07-02-2019 06:49 AM

Also got an invite... which was a surprise, since I don't remember signing up for anything, but it sounds like this is by invitation only. My question is, if they actually looked at applications, why not just send an interview invite, instead of jumping through more hoops? A co-worker told me that if you go to this, you don't have to do the Hogan and go straight to interview if you do well? Any truth to this?

Still have to take the Hogan.

Also received an invite, and I am very excited.

I assume that this event is actually worth going to, unlike a normal job fair? Are those attending likely in the queue to receive the Hogan and interview if successful?

Reading that it is invite only, it appears that this isn't like the delta or southwest fair where you basically are attending because you were lucky enough to get yourself a spot?

Was there a large amount of success from those who attended the expo last year?

If you got an invite, you are in the top of the stack. If you do not go I am sure it probably would not help your chances of getting an interview. Of the 600 who went last year I think over 90% at least got the Hogan. If you want to work at United, go.

Carter1 07-02-2019 07:20 AM

Thanks a lot for the quick reply.

I was going to go either way for sure, just didn't want to let my excitement run away with me if it was more of a luck type situation.

Have a great day and thanks again

It was a good deal, I imagine those who did not receive an invite somehow highlighted themselves at this event, since about a dozen individuals that attended the event with me that I knew from military all received hogans / interviews very shortly after.

Anyone from last years yet?

I still thought the meeting went very well. Hoping another chance this year.

My meeting last year went well, recruiter even said so lol so I’m not sure why I didn’t get invite to interview or another shot.

Move on, you are too good for them. I mentored a brilliant young pilot throughout his career, he was invited then given the silent treatment. He has moved on to bigger and better things in and outside aviation. Now he always rides Polaris and First Class on full fare tickets while United DH flow to the back. Also on track to hold a wide body command before he turns 30.

avi8tor4life 07-03-2019 12:38 PM

Anyone know if they are done sending invites for this year?

Email said invites begin to go out in July.

job fair

My daughter got and invite. She has about 3500 TT and just upgraded to CAP at Skywest a few months ago. I'm retired UAL but haven't done anything but the internal recommendation and she has about 10 recommendations from other pilots. Good luck to everyone!

I get the saltiness but the job is worth it. I wouldn't let the saltiness interfere with your judgement. Your comparing an ACME cargo outfit "command" with being at the big 6? Your buddy needs a better mentor.

Never said ACMI.

Nobody cares. We get paid handsomly and we also ride Polaris on overseas dead heads. We also get paid enough to buy UA discount tickets in Polaris for us and our families to fly all over the world without batting an eye. Again, nobody cares about your buddies sweet gig and his dead heads up front. Hope you can get on there as well.

Carter1 07-07-2019 07:52 AM

I am going and am very excited. Any tips would be greatly appreciated as I would like to be prepared as possible.

Invite received 6/27

Thats doable once a while, not every month, and also commuting. If you dont care, then dont compare. There are companies that actually care their pilots are qualified, and not hire from the right seat of some single piston, or scab offsprings lying about their military service.

Oh look another bitter RJ captain burnout who didn’t get selected. I understand you’re frustrated but try not to discourage others from trying just so you feel better about yourself.

Funny how everyone of these assumptions are wrong, yet, mine are right. Bouncing of runways much lately?

I get it. You were rejected. You didn’t make the cut. Let it go. This thread is for people looking for information about an annual September hiring event which you’re clearly not a part of. Go troll the RJ threads to make yourself feel more worthwhile and relevant.

Plenty of straight invites, I was one of two from my squadron who went to the mil day last Expo. The other 8+ were direct interviews. All but one received CJO's.

I would assume they might have another small batch go out to fill the spots for people that can’t make it.

jackcarls0n 07-12-2019 11:08 AM

Any recommendation for hotels in the area? Guess would be a good idea to book early. Any other recommendations?

The email gave until July 29th to confirm attendance, so I’d assume secondary invites would go out after that. But maybe they’ll send out backup invites piecemeal as original invitees decline.

I’m staying at the Holiday Inn Denver East - Stapleton, which is literally across the street from the training center. Putting those IHG points to use for a free room.

Vast majority of people usually stay at the Doubletree

jackcarls0n 07-12-2019 05:57 PM

Thanks, appreciate it. Yeah guess would be good to use the IHG points.

What are some typical questions asked at the expo?

100% guaranteed you’ll get asked “why United”. They usually just have you talk about yourself, what’s on your resume. What extracurriculars you’re involved with. “What would we talk about on a 4 day trip”.

Contract, Work, and Discrimination of Old White Man . If you want to be 100% honest, at least if you let the Captain lead discussion =D
