Job Fair prep?
Got the invite. Never been to a job fair/career expo. What is everyone doing for prep. I'm using Cage for everything else (App/resume review and interview prep). Also, I am still curious, would a hogan prep service HURT my chance of doing well on that? I've seen Career Takeoff and Ready Set Takeoff as options? Just trying to be as prepared as possible.

I got the invite a couple months ago, but accidentally deleted the email. Was there an RSVP requirement?

Not sure I'd take that route just yet... Anyone else hear anything like this? |
Yes.
You had to RSVP and select one of four sessions to attend.

With the September job fair fast approaching, would anyone care to share their experiences or friends experiences from the fair last year as a refresher?
Specifically questions asked in the 1 on 1, statistics of people getting the hogan out of the 600 attendees, any advice for for guys attending this year/lessons learned. Cheers all ! |

If this wasn’t so sad it would be comedy gold. Your applying to the majors and you don’t fully read the email, and “accidentally” delete the email and don’t immediately go into trash to un delete it? Attention to detail and following the directions is a graded part of the application processes. The first filter clearly worked.

Not sure but I'm hearing more and more that United is not a fan of the interview prep anymore. I believe they actually told the 18' job fair attendees not to do it bc they want the real you. My friend went last year and did not prep with cage or emerald. Only thing they did was have a huge TTMAT question bank ready and knew their callouts cold. He got the job.

Anything else useful to bring to the fair besides resume? Did they want to look at or see anything else in the past?

Glad I'm not the only one curious. Also interested in who brings cover letters in these days. IDK. I'm going to the workshop tonight at the Holiday Inn though just to get an idea.
|
Good luck to those that made it

Tonight and tomorrow night at the Holiday Inn in Quebec in DEN, put on by Cage Marshall. Find more details and buy a ticket on their website.

For those of us without a car, anyone happen to know if they will be able to accommodate our bags during the expo, since we will need to Uner or taxi in?

Just for clarity, if you Uber/Taxi to United’s training campus, you will not be able to drive in for security reasons. You will need to pull off to the side and walk in via the walk in security gate.

There is a good size luggage rack in the United security/welcome area, that I’d imagine would be available for those that need it.
are going. Best of luck to everyone. |
Cage Job Fair Workshop
Glad I went to the workshop, was good to realize that we're all here for the right reasons and have our own unique story. Be well dressed (suit) and groomed, be yourself, and know YOU. Have a Why United and be able to back up your statements with verifyable facts aka not wiki. Bring a few copies of your resume. Basically the takeaway is be genuine and don't be what you think they want you to be. Dishonesty and canned attempts whether in your app, resume, or one on one will guarantee failure. Make your stories relatable to the question asked and let them find out what makes you right for them. That's what they want from you. Don't forget that when your time comes, whether these job fairs or the interview, they picked YOU, they want YOU. You're simply face to face with them to reassure them of their decision. Hope this helps.

Is there any transport from the airport to the training center at all or just Uber Taxi if you're not driving?
Thanks for the above feedback, good luck all. |
You can the train that will get you about 1-2miles away. The Uber or taxi. United employees have a bus service but I don’t know if that is open to you guys. Good luck

Career Expo Experience
Attended the Expo this morning. It was a very well organized event. Everybody was super friendly and went out of their way to make everyone comfortable.
The one on one was trickier than I expected. I didn't do a lot of prep because I wanted my answers to be natural as opposed to canned or overly rehearsed and not genuine. However, I was asked to relate what my most memorable flight was... And I froze! I have been flying a long, long time and I've had some very routine flights (most of them) and a few memorable ones. But I had to really work to recall one of them when put on the spot. I hope I didn't look too stupid! I just wanted to pass along that experience so you can be ready. |

I had a similar experience to Wingnut. The one-on-one felt rushed and fairly intimidating with a lot of other people in the same room. I was asked a TMAAT about applying training in a flight experience. My answer felt well...dumb. Hopefully that's not the end all be all. United is my clear top choice. I do feel good about all of the other recruiters I spoke with in the hall.
I agree that the event was very well organized. Everybody was warm and welcoming. I found it humorous that each presenter thanked us for attending when it is us who are looking for an opportunity to join them. |

The best way to sound natural and not overly rehearsed is to over rehearse until your stories seem natural and spontaneous. Any decent prep company would tell you this. Hope you get a second chance after a Hogan invite.
As well as, when asked a question, you have it in your "tool box" to stop, think, THEN formulate the answer in the S.T.A.R. format they like to hear. |
