I’ve heard that so many times and still nothing! Similar to GrumpyAviator up above, it did take me a while to finish my degree, but I finally did finish almost 2 years ago now. I thought that would bring about a call as it did for he/she, but it didn’t. Shortly thereafter, applied for and selected as an LCA and been doing it ever since. Similar flying stats to JetDoc too. Met with BK at a job fair right before his retirement, nothing. It’s definitely frustrating! I love the role of LCA duties for sure, but it’s definitely not the gold it used to be I guess. Specifically, it doesn’t bring about that coveted invite we all think it will! I’m still hopeful, but didn’t even get an invite to the September fair and I quite literally update my AirlineApps and addendum sections after every trip... here’s to hoping!

So what’s the general consensus? Is getting an invite a large step towards United?

5200TT
3500 PIC
LCA
4 year degree
11 recs

Got the invite.

Yes. Depending on for whom.

That’s a lot of time for a part 91 Corporate guy. I can see why you’d be looking!

I think it depends on the airlines. Some were losing LCAs so quick they had to beg the majors to pull back or risk a complete meltdown at the regional level. Some of the legacy carriers listened and the rate of LCA hiring slowed down quite a bit. Suddenly having an LCA was almost a “bad” thing depending on what airline you were targeting. Southwest however pressed ahead and kept taking LCAs no matter what.

8000 TT
1800 TPIC 121
4 Yr Degree
CFI etc but never LCA
12 years part 121

Got the invite, intend to go, however close to upgrade at a certain LCC that recently got a somewhat decent CBA.

Not sure what I want to do, based at home either way.

If you live in NJ, the flying and variety in Newark would make this a simple decision if it were me. Id hate to think you Blue the opportunity.

You don't have a decision to make until United offers you a job.

If he had his degree, I would put it at 1 in 50.

And with >1000 turbine PIC and the degree it’s closer to 1 in 25.

Seems like pilotgolfer’s 1 in 10000 analysis nailed it. And it was perfectly sly.

That should be a no brainer! Knock the job fair out the park. Good luck!

It’s a big deal to have been one of the 300 selected...so, yes! Treat it like an interview so as to be called back for the real thing. Good luck!

Just stay at JetBlue...I want to get out of my regional and on to UAL faster! :D

Left Blue in ‘13. Ups and downs for sure but no regrets.

I am also sure it’s a different company today vs 13. PM if you have any questions.

I got the invite for the military day. This is my first exposure to a job fair. I plan on going, but what is the consensus regarding implications of turning down the invite?

I would not turn it down. I would also find a company that will help you prep for this and the interview. (Everyone recommendations can be found in previous threads).

I am an FO at LCC that recently got a "decent" CBA. I would do a lot of questionable things to be in your position. I am getting closer to 40 and my chances of getting hired at United are dwindling but I am still trying even after 3 years at JetBlue. Do not waiste your opportunity of working for real Major with huge variety of flying and equipment. JetBlue is a very poorly run stepping stone of an airline and the culture here is toxic.

I have found several recommendations of companies, IE Cage, but nothing relevant on what would help with this upcoming event. Any suggestions on how to prepare?

Dont spend any money to prep for a 30 second interraction where you are handing off a resume. Smile, make eye contact, brush your teeth, look good and dont have a limp, sweaty hand shake.

There...send me $300.

Cage does job fair prep too.

A lot of companies will give a 'whole process' or something like that package. This means, resume, application, job fair and interview support. You have to pay up first but you will use them until you get hired somewhere.

82spukram 08-01-2018 12:16 PM

FWIW

Every job interview before my united Airlines interview I did without prep. I was hired by every company except one. I used Emerald Coast for United. I walked into that interview very well prepared and it showed. I thought I did a good job before but after seeing how well United went I wished I had used them before. I believe Emerald Coast, Cage, etc will offer what you are looking for. I really don’t want to derail the thread with who’s best....it’s splitting hairs. I choose Emerald because I liked The program, the people, and they would help me until I got hired so it felt like a good deal.

Good Luck.

I can offer the same advice for $250 if you're an ALPA member :D

Any love for the former enlisted veterans for this job fair or do they only care about military pilots for the veterans day? I know quite a few former enlisted who have been killing it at the regionals for years who can't get anybody to knock down their door.

Aquaticus 08-01-2018 01:57 PM

Be very careful taking advice from people that haven't interviewed in the last decade. They mean well and these HR/pilot recruiters really are friendly and welcoming but this isn't the same process that it was way back when. They are asking questions that they want you to answer in a certain way so that they can check the box and say "wow he obviously wants to be here because he not only answered it correctly but he took the time to learn our goofy system." It is 100% a game and you either play it or you don't.

You need to do prep to be on the same level as your competition. It is a small price to pay for the added confidence and knowing that you aren't making the recruiters ears bleed with your chuck yeager story about flying around a thunderstorm. It is insane not to do it. Emerald Coast does webinars where you get to watch other people and it will open your eyes to how much you suck. The recruiters will do a mini interview during these events. Tell us about yourself (2-4 min on you), a few TMAAT, and finally "why united"... it is the same thing that you will get during the real interview with the same people across the table. Answer the TMAAT in the STAR format and it helped me to always end each one with what you or your company took away from the event to check the box on the R. All these companies will get you there. Cage is thrown around a lot too. They will give you slightly conflicting gouge on how to answer certain things but if you get to that point you are well prepared and can probably not sweat the minutia. Dress to impress and don't ask questions answered with a simple google search. This job is worth the effort.

The internal job fair announcement stated that the military day was for “veterans and those with a military flying background”.

Just wondering if any veterans who did not have a military flying background, but have done plenty of civilian flying since getting out, actually got the invite.

Former enlisted here. I went to the 2016 military/veterans fair, am going to the civilian fair this year.

Former regional LCA, current LCC FO

triandfly 08-01-2018 06:36 PM

For anyone who has been to one of these, how should one prepare for this (I’m familiar with Cage and ECC) - meaning aside from bringing a current resume and dressing to impress, what should one expect? I see it’s only about 15 minutes long.
Got the invite.
