Of course. No matter how you slice it this is an interview. It amazes me that some would treat this as anything else but that..

My brother-in-law worked at the local rail yard as an engineer (the greasy train-driver type, not the slide-rule/computer geek type). A few years ago a sweet supervisor position opened up with a way better schedule, pay, and benefits. We talked a bit about his upcoming interview and I related two things:
- The old saying that you should “Dress for the job you want, not for the job you have.” - Echoing the statement above, the fact that since I have joined my profession, I have never interviewed in anything other than a full suit and tie. A few weeks later he told me that 30 guys interviewed for the position, most coming in from the yard in their work clothes to sit down for the interview. He said he went home on his lunch break, showered and shaved, and put on the only suit he owned for the interview. He got a few cat-calls from his buddies as he walked back through the yard, but he ultimately got the job. He said that they mentioned his suit several times during the interview and brought it up again later when they offered him the job, telling him that he was the only one of those 30 who had done that and that they really appreciated his professionalism. Long story short, important people are watching and they are taking note of many little things, both good and bad: wear an f’n suit. |

Anyone have suggestions for color/style of ties and/or pocket squares? Should I try to make it United themed or just go with standard patterns?

Nothing outside of the normal. Dark suit and normal/professional looking tie. They don’t pay that close attention to things like that, unless your tie is oddly out of place or your suit is that out of a clown’s wardrobe. Dark blue, dark gray suit and a red, blue tie is probably most common. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Good question, I was wondering the same. I have a black suit and a blue shirt with a simple patterned tie. The color of the shirt and tie and from United’s color scheme. I’m going all in baby! [emoji205]

In a bit of a panic here. I received the invite in the first round, definitely going. My first class medical was up in August and between my AME being on vacation much of the month and me blocking 95 hours I couldn't get in. (I'm an SIC at current company, so fine here as far as 2nd class is concerned). I have an appointment in September but it's just after the job fair and I'm desperately trying to get in beforehand and am on a "cancellation list" but if nothing comes up how bad is this going to look? I'm not concerned I won't pass but where I live there aren't options for AME's nearby.

United requires a 1st class. I would fly to somewhere to get it done. That's me.

It’s a job fair. Don’t over think it. Nobody is checking your license and medical. HR reps wouldn’t even know what a medical looks like. If this was an actual interview, then show up with a valid First Class. This is not the interview.
Not having a 1st class medical in the application website will void your app. Find somewhere and go. Side Note: HR Reps at UAL definitely will know what a 1st class medical looks like, they are people who hire airline pilots for a living not random nobodies. Who do you think goes over the application when you go to an interview? |
Having to have a medical for a job fair !?!?: I agree , don’t overthink it. Surely you need one for the overall job position but not to hand out your resume and talk shop for 10 mins
Not required period. You aren’t submitting any documents . You can update your Medical when you get it on Airline apps . I would do it quickly just in case your stuff gets scored/reviewed ASAP . However if you can’t get it done prior to job fair it’s fine . You can always mention it and say you have appointment to do it . The Recriument team/HR are very understanding people . Get it done if you can but surely not required for a job fair. |
Anyone prepping for possible questions not mentioned in the AeroCrew email? I see the 4-5 are pretty basic. What about reviewing some of the common interview questions?

Yeah, you should risk showing up to a job fair where they only invited the most “qualified” applicants, based on their airline-apps applications. And now you aren’t technically qualified because your medical is expired. That sounds like a great strategy..... Go get your medical before you show up. I don’t know why this is even a question. Come prepared and don’t give an answer that you can use at another airline interview. |

If you do not have a valid medical or passport you are not eligible for an interview at United Airlines and your application drops out of the system for consideration. Many Many airlines have a computer, even at cattle call, meet and greets to enter info on applications, they will know. I would do everything in my physical capacity to get a first class. If there is no humanly possible way, bring it up. |

If you have to drive a couple hours or fly, go do it. You'll be much more comfortable at the fair. I would not go to this somewhat exclusive hiring event with an invalid application. If you're flying that much, do it on a layover. |
My medical and passport are valid and I have a bunch of 121 TPIC, can I have an invite please? And oh yeah, I actually WORKED at United for 15 years previously.

Medical taken care of, got on their cancellation list and an opening popped up that day. Perfect. Seems I created some drama here, sorry for that.
Yes, I do in fact live in an area where AME’s aren’t around every corner. All is good. See you in a week and a half. |

Don’t be a drama queen. Life Altering? Thats just ridiculous. If it were me, I’d update airlineapps with a first class medical dated Sept 2018. Go to the job fair...where they will not be looking at any paperwork. Go back to work and get on with your life. Get your new medical and then correct the date on your app. Zero drama and you’re done with it.
If you think they have the resources to check every iteration of your application, then disregard. I want to focus on this golden gem of poor thought. If you think they have the resources to check every iteration of your application, then disregard United, does, in fact have every resource available to validate resumes. The date on your medical will be verified when you interview and present a photocopy of your valid info. It's one of the few things that will be 100% verified, probably the worst possible thing to alter. Also, the company takes snapshots of your app and checks what you change. These go back quite a ways. I have heard information from at least 2 different higher-ups of people getting FIRED after showing up for indoc because they caught doctored applications. People have had their interviews cancelled for adding on things after they get the call. All this to avoid going to the doc? Lazy, dishonest and poorly informed advice. What next? Guestimate IFR time? Sorry if I offended your sensibilities or acted like a 'drama queen' for insisting that OP not LIE on his application, like you suggest. I stand by the fact that opportunities like this don;t come often, and blowing a chance at a legacy job WILL in fact, have life altering consequences. |

So wait, they care about IFR time?

In case any of those here decide to falsify something on their app, like medical dates, in seconds it can be verified on line.
I went to faa.gov, searched my name and all my current certification data came up. No hours, but all my licenses, ratings, last medical date and restrictions. So does United’s fancy Applcation program do that? Why find out. |

UAL now has a spot for attendance of "United Recruiting Event" or "United Sponsored Event" (plus the obvious NGPA/WIA/OBAP) in the addendum, so just to sum this all up looking forward, where is the best place/reference for knowing when these United Events are taking place?
