Pro tip: Pre-write generic handwritten thank you notes on good stationary ahead of time. Get the exact names (and titles) of everyone you interact with and put their names on envelopes after. Ask the secretary or whoever is your point of contact that day to deliver them on your way out of the building (don’t forget to address one to him/her also).
That was the gouge I got a few years ago and it seemed to work pretty well. |

I’m glad to hear they put an end to the card writing. Just as silly as needing to wear a red tie for a Delta interview.
Wait, what? I wore a red tie to the United interview. Was that wrong? ;) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Yeah, I saw a few people with red ties. There was a guy with a plaid suit! I’m curious to see how it went for that guy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I asked one of the pilots there why the event was taking place at all. If it was the natural progression from app review, to job fair meet and greet, then hogan, then interview, it makes sense. But since they are sending applicants direct to the Hogan then interview, why the extra hoop for us? If every applicant had to go through this, then it makes sense. But they do not. I didn't get a real answer. It was still awesome and I'm glad I got to go.
The United culture is a moving target and we are about to replace half of our pilots within the next 10 years so they care about who they reshape the culture with. They want people to understand the airline and to protect what we have here. We don't care what color your tie is or how much of a nerd you are as long as you can shine yourself up and be friendly for a few hours... which is the majority of our job. This isn't Delta and if you ever get the chance to interview at another airline or have in the past you will see an immediate difference in their culture. We have the most women as a % of our pilot group of any airline. Almost double that of Delta and American. The good ol boy club died a lot longer ago here. We have more widebodies covering more of the planet than our domestic competition. Our union is very much involved with almost every aspect of our company. It also has a history book worth of contentious issues from the past. I think it will make us stronger with future market turmoil and stopping our board and management from making short term gains at the expense of long term profitability (scope.) If you are qualified and capable they really do want you and they want you to feel like you have some sense of us before you decide. Good luck! |
Aquaticus,
Thank you for taking the time to write this. We certainly appreciate it. As one of the fortunate pilots invited, I can say that the event was a great opportunity for us to confirm what we already knew, United’s culture is one of the things that, in my opinion, sets them apart from all other airlines. I am definitely looking forward to the opportunity to join the United team soon. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

No. Don't do that. I interviewed in January of this year and were explicitly told not to do that from the people in HR.

I agree! When I interviewed back in 2013 I saw a fairly large stack of what were clearly thank you cards on Gloria’s desk, unopened. I wondered if they we ever opened?
The reason that I got for not to do it was because United is trying to lower their environmental footprint and ask you can imagine, all the thank you cards that they would get from all the individuals interviewing for the position would add up to quite a bit. I’m not sure as to the validity of that claim, but that’s what Cage Consultings told me Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

[emoji849] Negative, that is what I was told by Cage regarding the thank you cards. But, United is trying to reduce their footprint https://www.united.com/ual/en/us/fly...l-sources.html I guess you’ve got to start with something. If you multiply 10K applications and thank you cards over 10 years, that’s a lot of paper. Pretty soon you’ll need to bring your resume and supporting documents on a USB drive haha [emoji23] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Questions:
1. Are the results from the Hogan verified by a human or is it all automated computer verified? 2. How many days after you take the hogan do you get the yes or no? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Results to applicant depends on when you take it apparently according to the hogan thread, if you take it Friday won’t be till following week etc |
I took the hogan a couple months ago but got my results (interview invite) an hour later.

Next day ..................Generally

The results from my understanding are computer generated and then reviewed by a human.
It's been rumored for over a year now that the process will change to not only when a candidate takes it, but as well as a person seeing the ACTUAL test before a CJO is given or not. |

For those still curious about the in house November job fairs for family members of united employees and former interns, invites went out yesterday for interns and family members went out today. Received an invite for the family event on November 14th.
Regional CA, 2900 TT and 500-600ish PIC are my quals. No LCA, 5 internals and a CP letter. |
