Mmm so you’re saying the ones invited aren’t the most competitive since job fair draws out the process?

No. The invitees are similar to the guys I know with multiple offers. I think United is having them jump through an extra unnecessary hoop.

I know you probably know this, but the lack of a 4 year degree is hard to overcome. I would think the LCA title and years of service to UAL helps significantly, though. Maybe enough to tip the scale eventually.

Good luck.

In the presentation United gave at their virtual job fair recently there was a slide stating that 98.3% of new hires in 2016 had a bachelors degree.

If you don’t like those odds, I’d recommend finishing the degree.

Sad that associates + A&P + years of working at the company is viewed less than a bachelor's in a random field.

I guess I'm thankful I have a magical 4 year degree. Apparently I should have gotten it in HR so I would understand hiring.

Getting an online Professional Aeronautics bachelors degree from Riddle with those kind of previous qualifications is pretty easy....just sayin’...

Thomas Edison will give you credit for experience and allow you to knock out a degree in less than a year if you have time for online course work.

What I still don't understand is that I have passed the UA CPP process (app/hogan/interview), but still can't get the computer to pull my application for an off the street opportunity. Already paid for C/M to look over my AirlineApps. Don't know what piece of the puzzle I am missing.

+6000TT
+2000TPIC
+10 yrs 121
LCA
4-year degree
+10 LOR's

I think it’s pretty clear that the CPP program is providing interviews to pilots who would not have otherwise been selected via the normal off the street process. They are two separate avenues to an interview. Just because you are in the CPP does not have any bearing on whether your app would be selected otherwise.

There are probably a thousand OTS guys with stats like yours or better who haven’t gotten a call.

I think your TT is just now getting in the sweet spot of the avg civilian guy off the street. The avg TT was around 6000 (in years past) and that avg was deceptive because of the 50% military guys + interns + the handful of random low time hires. It sounds like you have done everything you can to improve your odds. The CPP might have actually hurt a guy like you more than it helped. They would hire you in a second but are stuck dragging guys off the top of the cpp list who may or may not have been actively pursuing United.

I hope you get the email soon!

Just playing devils advocate here, as I’m not 100% sure how to process works— I know they say you CAN get hired outside of the CPP, but putting myself in their shoes... why would I pull a pilot from one of my feeders earlier than I’m required to when there’s thousands of candidates just as qualified that I could pick from? Are CPP candidates actually getting selected for off the street hire? I’d be interested in comparing data between # of non-CPP off the street hires versus # of CPP off the street hires to see if there’s a bias. Kind of like comparing people hired off the street at AA from a whole-owned subsidiary (skipping the flow) versus people hired off the street from an outside, non affiliated airline.

Again, not trying to be negative. I’m just as curious as you are.
