I’ve heard that so many times and still nothing! Similar to GrumpyAviator up above, it did take me a while to finish my degree, but I finally did finish almost 2 years ago now. I thought that would bring about a call as it did for he/she, but it didn’t. Shortly thereafter, applied for and selected as an LCA and been doing it ever since. Similar flying stats to JetDoc too. Met with BK at a job fair right before his retirement, nothing. It’s definitely frustrating! I love the role of LCA duties for sure, but it’s definitely not the gold it used to be I guess. Specifically, it doesn’t bring about that coveted invite we all think it will! I’m still hopeful, but didn’t even get an invite to the September fair and I quite literally update my AirlineApps and addendum sections after every trip... here’s to hoping!

So what’s the general consensus? Is getting an invite a large step towards United?

5200TT
3500 PIC
LCA
4 year degree
11 recs

Got the invite.

Would a 135 LCA also be golden?

Yes. Depending on for whom.

It seems like the majority selected for this job fair have been LCAs or have some sort of airline or military instruction background. Anyone get an invite without these qualifications? If so, what do your numbers look like?

8400TT
5000PIC
BS degree
Former Part 91 CP
Current Fortune 200 Part 91 Safety Officer
No 121 Time, never mil

That’s a lot of time for a part 91 Corporate guy. I can see why you’d be looking!

I think it depends on the airlines. Some were losing LCAs so quick they had to beg the majors to pull back or risk a complete meltdown at the regional level. Some of the legacy carriers listened and the rate of LCA hiring slowed down quite a bit. Suddenly having an LCA was almost a “bad” thing depending on what airline you were targeting. Southwest however pressed ahead and kept taking LCAs no matter what.

8000 TT
1800 TPIC 121
4 Yr Degree
CFI etc but never LCA
12 years part 121

Got the invite, intend to go, however close to upgrade at a certain LCC that recently got a somewhat decent CBA.

Not sure what I want to do, based at home either way.

If you live in NJ, the flying and variety in Newark would make this a simple decision if it were me. Id hate to think you Blue the opportunity.

You don't have a decision to make until United offers you a job.
