The Amish Pilots Association is now forming.
The Cajun Pilots Association will be holding job fairs soon.
The Latino Pilots Association will be holding an open house.
The French-Canadian Pilots Association will be holding a resume work shop.
The Transgender/Gender Neutral Pilots Association will be holding a professionalism workshop.
The Lesbian Pilots Association will be hosting an informal afternoon tea to discuss new trends in the profession.
No one needs to "reach out." Folks aspiring to be in the airline profession need to simply put in the work to reach their goals.

Book
There is a book is called “Unjust: Social Justice and the Ummaking of America” by Noah Rothman that provides an interesting perspective on the concept of reverse discrimination. The book discusses how in the author’s opinion, the “social justice” movement has over time morphed into a phenomenon that actually counteracts the intended effects of the movement. The idea isn’t new, as evidenced by the posts in this thread, but the way the author explains the concept in this book is very different than the typical way you will hear people try to explain reverse discrimination. Rather than oversimplifying the issue, he really delves into it from an historical standpoint and actually demonstrates the complexity of the issue. Now I tend to be one who gets pretty irritated when I hear people talking about reverse discrimination. But in reading the book I found that there are aspects of that point of view that are valid, or at least are worthy of consideration. If people aren’t willing to open themselves up to really trying to understand the opposing side’s point of view there will never be the ability to reach a consensus. Those in this thread who are so adamant that there is no legitimacy whatsoever to the claims of reverse discrimination need to consider the other perspective and the same goes for those who are adamant that the only solution to racial/gender/sexual orientation based initiatives in order to reach the goal of a color blind, merit based society is to remove all semblances of different or unique needs or perspectives of each group.
I highly recommend the book.

More than 8 out of 10 pilots in last year's United new hire classes are straight white males.
If you happen to have those demographic odds in your favor and STILL can't get hired at United, perhaps you need to stare in the mirror rather than throw stones at some historically-marginalized groups who make up less than 20 percent TOTAL of current hiring.
Further, if you have a problem with United's corporate policy of striving to hire a more representative cross-section of the communities they serve, then by all means, walk into your upcoming interview and tell the interviewer about your enlightened opinion right off the bat. That will make the interview very quick and efficient so that they can move on to the next candidate.
Easy peasy.

Doing it right implies that we are going to hire the best we can. We're not interested in interpreting whatever history book brain-washed someone. "Historically-marginalized." Sounds like more social justice to me.....
Better to simply do it right and be fair, unbiased, and impartial. let the qualifications and experience matter first and last. Letting other factors such as righting the wrongs on behalf of a category and class of persons that were in someone's opinion "historically marginalized" is simply discrimination. Just a really cool and neato word for justifying the practice.
