SFO pilots, where do you live?

Funny, one of my childhood friends is a Lieutenant in the SFPD and he says it really depends on the neighborhood. The way he put it, most of SF is safe, as indicated in the stats, and there are a few bad neighborhoods, especially the Tenderloin (which has always been bad). I am born/raised in SF and I can tell you the part of the city I grew up in is definitely not lawless or even dangerous. Quite nice, actually.

The truth is that I was born and raised in SF and I go back to visit family regularly, but I live in Hawaii. I've spent 20 years in the military, mostly active duty, with the last few years as a reservist while commuting to California for my civilian 121 job. My wife is still active duty here, though I expect eventually we'll move back to that place you call a SH run by "communist maniacs". Your words make it clear that your issue, as with so many on here, is with California/SF's politics, not the actual crime rates that are in the FBI statistics et al., and in that case, there's no reasoning with you about this because you're not going to change your mind regardless of facts.

So in reality which red state do you plan on retiring in?

I was born and raised in the east bay. Growing up in the 90s was awesome. Left around 2015 but still go back to visit relatives as well. Sorry, but it's a sh!thole now. Yes, there are many other sh!tholes too but the focus of this thread has been this sh!thole in particular. The best thing SF could do for itself is recall it's woke DA and start enforcing the law again. The people wantonly running around looting stores in the bay area (and seemingly nowhere else, wonder why) need to be in prison where they belong. The prop 47 experiment has been quite a spectacular failure and anyone with half a brain could see it coming.

The same can be said for SF. It has some rough areas, no doubt. I'd never live in the Tenderloin though I have friends who do and my own sister lived there for several years while at UC Hastings. You also have Nob Hill, North Beach, Sunset and the Presidio areas that I'd love to live in if I could afford it. Just because a city has some bad neighborhoods doesn't mean the entire city is a SH, and likewise, just because you disagree with the politics of the majority of people living there doesn't make the entire city a crime infested SH. You asked where I'd like to retire and if I had a choice, it'd be Nob Hill or the Presidio areas. I'm a city person in my heart and when I was stationed at Oceana, I lived in Ghent; when I was doing a shore tour in DC, I lived in Chinatown, etc., so I'd love to live in SF again. It won't be the Tenderloin, but I'm hoping by the time I retire, the tech bros will have completely left and we might actually be able to afford the neighborhoods I mentioned.

No. Look up the definition of the 'Bay Area'. You might want to look at Palo Alto (Peninsula), Walnut Creek (East Bay), Mill Valley (North Bay), San Carlos (Peninsula), Tiburon (North Bay), Pleasanton (East Bay), Cupertino/Los Altos (South Bay), St. Helena (North Bay), and Danville (East Bay). These are some of the wealthiest cities with some of the lowest crime rates in the entire country, not just California, and they're all in the Bay Area. Anyone who labels the entire region a ****hole either isn't familiar with the geography or has a political agenda because it just isn't true.

Wealthy areas are nice everywhere in the world, even in a SH.
A nice area is people who take pride in their dignity and don’t rely on the government for it. They don’t need to be wealthy. I didn't label SF a SH I’ve never been there.
