Let me know if you would be willing to donate.

Do you have a link to the page for anyone that wants to contribute?

Do you know for a fact most if not all will not be able to return to their previous/current job?

Looks like someone’s else beat me to it and is active. I was waiting to actually talk to those in the class to see if they would accept monies, but someone else decided to do it right away.

Thanks for putting that up. Now we can put talk into real help.

Gofund me is really good at this tuff, so no worries if they turn it down, the donors will get a refund. My son had a page set up for him in college when his car flooded. Once he met his goal, he rejected the rest and I think Gofund me gave the donors a choice to donate to other causes or get a refund.

Any word on what the content of “the call” from the company to the cancelled pilots was?

what I did when I was in this situation once in 1994 was go out and buy a puppy. They can all find temporary work unlike me as flying jobs were hard to get, but if they are qualified to come to UAL, then they are qualified to do something else til they get the call.
thankfully this type of self serving attitude is a minority in our pilot group. Please don’t apply for any Union position in our company

When I left from my regional to major, I remembered back to that 2008 disaster at UAL. A good friend got hosed by that. I made sure my employment went right up to the day I started my new job, and confirmed I could come back if something happened up to the day before. A couple classmates at the new job took multi week vacations before starting the new job, and had no backup if something did happen to them in between. I don’t want to be alarmist or anything, but I’m just saying, if you are nearing that point to transition to a new job, you might want to play it safe.

Disagree.
It's not 1994 anymore, it's 2020.
IF these pilots were told on Friday (as I'm hearing from a few people) that the class was still on, then this was a poor move by SOMEONE in management.

When Sean Archuleta was killed (Atlas 3591 crash in Houston) last year, someone in the company 'understood' the meaning of compassion AND how it would look to the outside world.. to do the right thing.
Putting his name up in the class, sending his wife Wings.
It's the little things.

If the coronavirus continues to trend bad, I get canceling classes. But to cancel a new hire class a few days out is just a dick move. There's no other way to say it.

We live in a very different world these days than 1994, or 2001. Social media is a player now more than ever.
Will this cancellation of a new hire class of 23 affect the bottom line or cause a massive social outcry? Of course not.
But it's just another seed that will now be planted in every United Pilot who learns about it.
It will also be interesting to see when (if) Delta and American cancel their new hire classes.. and how far out.
How about all the Regional carriers?!

This was a mistake by someone in Management. No way of denying that.
