We can argue all day long about how much "better" or worse things are with death rates coming down from their initial highs while cases skyrocket. A rate can be low but still problematic if the number it is a fraction of is huge... and for us that's the current case.
Since this is the UAL furlough thread I'd offer that it doesn't matter if some here think we're overreacting in the US if Europe and Asia seem to have actually pulled their $hit together and have literally 1% or FEWER cases and deaths give or take right now. I can think of more than a few unrelated perceived threats that we consider extreme when elsewhere the problem is 100 fold of our own. The fact for now is Europe views us as a health threat and we're not flying to dozens of places we normally would because of it and until we do something to improve our numbers.

Wow, what an idea!
Lowering MMG (Or ALV) is a self correcting way of reducing furloughs. Too bad that will never happen here because of some greedy senior pilots.

Yes, it makes perfect sense given the nature of our jobs and training vs. their training for all aircraft. Plus we can continue to do cargo only flights without the need for FAs, though this is starting to taper off compared to the past few months. Admittedly I tuned in for just a couple of minutes of that recent Operations Town Hall on Tuesday night. One of the anonymous questions I read had a hint of "us vs. them" tone to it...meaning other employees vs. pilots. Essentially the questioner wanted to know if all employee groups are going to be treated equally in layoff notices and specifically mentioned pilots vs. other groups. Now it could have been a pilot asking this but I got the sense another employee wanted to know if pilots were going to sacrifice as much as others. Didn't listen past the first few minutes as it was more of the same.

Furloughs are a direct result of public perception.
public perception is now driven by daily infection rate not actual death rates.
Empty planes are a direct result of what media puts out.
I believe this is very relevant in a furlough thread.

Were you offering to work for less the last several years so RJ pilots could be paid more? You know, a little redistribution? No? You must be greedy yourself then.

starting OCT 1 when the first pilot walks out the door we all get reduced line values per our contract and fourlough protections.

So I hope we could agree that media didn’t bring virus into the US. I also feel the the media on both sides tend to sensationalize things for ratings, clicks, $. No side is immune to greed.
But, if media didn’t report anything at all about the virus would airlines now be operating normally? Would the countries virus data be better, same or worse? So CNN is responsible for 36,000 furloughs at United?
