The company wouldn't find that very fine.

They will just keep running displacement bids to tweak where they want people in the end.

Will they use a coarse line or the fine line to do so?

Currently a fairly junior Bus Captain in EWR and named on the displacement. Figured I’d bid right seat on the 37 in an attempt to delay a full course (and keep captain pay obviously!) rather than a quick “jump the bag” touch and go in the Bus sim. Might work, but that also means I’ll have to fly a 737! 😩

I think they can do whatever they want because they can run multiple bids before they have to come up with a training plan.

you've gotta resign yourself to the concept that management runs the airline and we just run our airplane. when they train us, they train us. these last few months have been a glimpse into what retirement will be like.

the contract has to be followed and that's really the only thing that prevents management from truly doing all the want all the time. i don't know about running infinite bids to get their desired result. i am hoping the union is paying attention to everything that management is doing.

First of all, there will be furloughs come Oct 1st (unless the government gives a second aid package that forbids it). How many, who knows? No one does, but there will be some. There have been a lot of good points brought up here, certainly you don't have an airline if you furlough 8000 in one go. But there will be some.

At this point it's unfair to tell, especially the new guys, to get there houses in order. It's silly, most of them probably blew up their house just to get to United. They either left the military which only pays enough to really live a decent life, or they left the regionals where you never make enough to live a good life. The better point is, if you do get furloughed, start planning as soon as you are back for the next downturn, because there will be one!

Just remember, nothing is as good or as bad as it first seems. You may get furloughed, and you may think it is the end of the world, but the best things in life could happen to you while you are away. And maybe, just maybe the airline you return to is a much better one than the one you left, although United has been pretty good the past few years.

When life gives you lemons, make lemonade (and add a little tequila).

Furlough was the best thing that ever happened to me, but returning to United after the furlough was pretty good too.

Just hang in there, quit speculating, stop worrying and prepare...
Bye, Felicia

No skills other than flying and waiting tables. Got picked up by another carrier that was a much better fit. We would have never left on our own volition. We felt like it was the end of the world, but it wasn’t. I wouldn’t wish a furlough on anyone, but sometimes it leads to better things.
