On Tuesday, October 27, 2020, the Delta MEC commenced a virtual special meeting to provide further direction to the Negotiating Committee with respect to the ongoing discussions with Delta regarding furlough mitigation. After meeting with the Company for the past two weeks, the Negotiating Committee has reached an agreement in principle. Once the contractual language is finalized and agreed upon between the parties, LOA #20-04 will become a tentative agreement and presented to the MEC for its review and action.

In exchange for temporary flexibility on the TLV to allow a five-hour window between 72 and 80 hours, the Delta pilots will receive contractual improvements in the following areas:

• An immediate lowering of the Green Slip trigger from “the lesser of ALV or 75 hours” to “the lesser of the ALV minus 5 hours or 72 hours”, which dependent on the ALV, could lower the green slip trigger to as low as 66 or 67 hours
• Furlough protection for every Delta pilot on the seniority list until January 1, 2022
• A permanent modification to the TLV to 73-78 hours after the term of the LOA
• A commitment from Delta to establish a Market-Based Cash Balance Plan for all Delta Pilots
• Positive Space commuting provisions for the term of the LOA
• Establish contractual guardrails on ARCOS call-out parameters, and improve call-out and batch size requirements
• Monthly pay of 30 hours, DC contributions and active medical for all UNA pilots who received furlough notices, even if they have not completed initial training at Delta. These pilots will not have a flying obligation to the Company nor will they have restrictions on outside employment.
• A pause and extension of the LOA in the event of a clean CARES Act extension until the furlough protections of the Act expire, regardless of whether the funding made available by the Act is utilized by Delta

More detailed information will be coming shortly when the Negotiating Committee reaches a tentative agreement including a Negotiators’ Notepad.

Quite the improvements for what looks like not a lot of give.

Perhaps a delta driver will stop by and put this into plain English.

Basically.

We give a few hours give or take from our average line value each month. That is the only contentious part as our group was very militant about any kind of reduction to our average value line. Although this is a give it seems to be very minimal considering the company was seeking up to 15% reduction initially. We are now looking at some thing like a 5% reduction give or take depending on category. NB won’t see a huge hit , mostly WB.

We negotiated to lower our true line value which is normally 75-80 hours per month and then up and down from that baseline for pbs bidding .

Reducing TLV is a win as we have been crying for this after the past few summers of abuse. It will have a net result in requiring more staffing too. Due to this being a bit lower naturally now our monthly min will flex what we are being told 1-3 hours lower on average depending on category.

Reserve min guarantee is unchanged at a min of 72 hours.

The ones bearing the brunt of the cost savings are the UNA furlough group going from full 717 FO pay now to 30 hours, but it’s better than the alternative of zero.

retirement plan commitment yet to be seen as it needs some regulatory work done before company can proceed.

It will allow us to put our excess DC contributions in there to acrue vs being taxed when going into the regular pay check as it does today when one maxes out contributions.

Trigger for green slip which is our premium pay will go down making it a little easier to hit the trigger.

As a commuter the PS will be a nice add for the year.

Overall, I see this as a fair deal that saves our pilots without the group having to take a huge hit to save them.

ALV = Average Line Value (your MPG I believe) this can vary month to month. Our PBS line construction window is +7.5 to -7.5 either side of ALV.

TLV = Targeted Line Value is a rolling 12 bid period average of ALV

ARCOS is our automated calling system for premium pay (green slip) trips.

UNA is a company-created category our potential furloughees were put into. Essentially those pilots are taking the brunt of the pay cuts.

Permanently reduces our trigger for green slip pay which may offset the reduction TLV for senior pilots.

I don’t see enough give here. It doesn’t appear the company got any savings. There’s has got to be something else.....if not? we’ll then good for Delta.

The company can say the pilots are accepting a reduction in hours, some over 50%, to the non unionized work groups to keep them that way. And there is a shorter 'recall' leash.

Thats all I come up with. Overall, seems like a great deal, although im biased as a potential furlough

I think the agreement just allows the company to save face. They didn’t want to furlough anyone due to what they see as needing to call them back before it would be cost efficient. But they would have indeed furloughed them just to spite our union. This way, no furloughs for pilots and the company gets to show all the non contract employees that even the pilots gave something too.

Not really. Some short term, very minor flexibility for an increased head count, a significantly lowered premium pay (200%) trigger and a new retirement plan.

Is it 1721 UNA (potential furloughs) saved or was it the higher number? And Jan 2022 for no furloughs sure sounds a lot better than June 2021. It’s a lot better of a deal than we got. What was the yes vote %?
